I like the old one better, much more faithfull to the original :(

So Vox and Mesa didn't like the big ressemblance visually. I hope they did not also pressure IKMM in changing the plugin sonically as well.

Oh well...It seems to be only going downhill for AT2.

Buddhists use "Amplitube 2" as a mantra symbolising "the amply Long March that may or may not lead to Nirwana", ringing their tube bells.

But it won't sound as the original anyways - why look like them then?

Hmmm...but it is really trying hard to though. I think when they say "based on AC30", it means that they emulate it (using the famous DSM technology).

Yeah well, great list - if at least one of the essential things will sound real.

Squids, have you got any "insider" news on that AC30 and Double Rectifier? Besides cosmetics, dId IKMM have to change how they sonically sound as well?

Yeah but we already know you're not going to like it, I mean, you've made your mind up already right??

No. I didn't. But after all that hype, AT2 *has* to be something entirely different from what's available allready.

take it as a lesson folks, always promise less then you're sure you can deliver and you're more likely to come out looking better than worse....;)

Now that's just silly. I doubt that Vox has exclusive rights to the diamond cloth. The new brown cloth looks like some 70's bed covering
"All day long, when I see you, I think of you no clothes, wa-wa-wee-wa, but is very wonderful."

So, the emulation is either
A) so bad that Mesa and Vox want their names in no way associated with this product, and definitely don't want people thinking their amps sound like this,
OR
B) so good that they're actually afraid that all hardware amps will lose their value, and don't want people to realize that this is a cheaper alternative.

Yeah, I picked A too. Line6 calls it the A-30. NI calls it the AC-Box. But now IK can't call it anything close to "Vox AC30", and can't even use the cloth pattern. What's up with that?

Post

They should call it the "IK-30".

Of course not the sound. That has stayed the same and is awesome (IMO as well as those who have heard it at trade shows). But, you can see some work has been done on the graphics to make it more general "hinting" at the original. More tasteful if you ask me. I don't like it when the product looks too much like the original. But, a nice hint at it is enough to get the idea (some like elements, some different). AT2 really is a new product feature-wise and all together with everything else. A hybrid of emulation and innovation.

I did ask about the riff demos and apparently they are being finalized as I write. I can't wait to hear those myself. The tones I've been getting with my beta version are stellar though. I will be sharing those with you guys soon. I have some NAMM deadlines on our drum and loop libraries printing, pressing etc. to take care of first and a bunch of SRians going on vacation so the pressure is on! But, when I can relax I will lay down some tasty riffs of my own with it... even though I know that even if I tricked you and played you riffs with a REAL amp but didn't tell you there would be some people that claimed it didn't sound real. I might do that. Throw in a few real amps and not tell you which just so I can point out the phoney bastards! ;) Oh, that would be fun. If only I had more time.

I did find out what the hold up is on AT2. Although, I don't understand it technically because I don't write code. It has a whole new framework that will power AT2 as well as Ampeg so it is a complex beast I am sure. The developers want to get it just right and I respect that. I am patiently waiting for the final version to play with myself. Obviously it will be at NAMM. So, get your ticket and go to Anaheim to play with it yourself! I know some of you will be there and I look forward to hanging a bit with some KVRians.

Now, back to work. Squids = busy.
