I was gonna say something about piling on effects and other things that will make the product more and more expensive, but I'll just keep it to myself.

#1. Jose Arredondo modded Marshall (Ala EVH, John Sykes, Jake Lee, etc.)Midiworks wrote:Here is your chance !
Please name 5 "Drive" amp models you would like to see in the Soundspectral amp sim.
The 5 most wanted will be included !
As you might know by now,
those amps will be as real as it can get.
(not just a fancy gui that plays with your imagination, but does not deliver punishment.)
#2 Soldano SLO
#3 JCM 800
#4 Bogner Uberschall
#5 Marshall Plexi
I own the SLO and JCM 800 and have access to a Jose so I can compare easily.

Actually, the Jose is probably a bigger challenge because of the mystery surrounding his mods and the fact that he is dead. It also is the best sounding amp I've ever played through. My friend has one, and I also played through Jake E. Lee's two Jose heads when I auditioned for Ozzy's band back in the mid 80's (Zak Wylde got the gigAndrewSimon wrote:Now that's a real challenge Rene!Guitarjeff wrote: #4 Bogner Uberschall

That Uberschall sounds fizzy! I LIKE it, don't get me wrong, but it's a bit soft around the edges. I was surprised, as I don't know much about those amps and I've always been told they're good.
Another amp that I only know from hearing in songs (not from playing one myself) are the Dumble amps. I don't know enough about them to even judge if you did a good job one way or another. But if testimonies are to be believed, the Super Overdrive would suit my needs for clean and "thick smooth drive" perfectly, if both channels were emulated.
I'm not a fan of Santana since the comeback, but when I was trying to find tone clips, I came across this article in which he talks about Dumble amps quite a bit:
http://www.musicplayer.com/lounge/setups/santana.htm
I'll post back if I can find some sound clips. I know they get used on the John Mayer Trio CD, but I don't know specifically which songs are through Dumbles.

I can easily get samples since my friend owns one if Rene is actually interested. Of course, Anything from VH-1 or VH-2, Ozzy's "Bark At The Moon" or "Ulitimate Sin" or Whitesnake's 1987 S/T record (think "Still Of The Night" tone) or any of the Blue Murder stuff has the tones all over it. I think the Motley Crue guy used Jose's amps in the Girls Girls Girls/Dr. Feelgood Period also.AndrewSimon wrote:But do you even have a sample for him to work with?Guitarjeff wrote:Actually, the Jose is probably a bigger challenge because of the mystery surrounding his mods and the fact that he is dead. I dunno. He probably just got lucky that day.kilroy wrote:Blimey Jeff...how did you lose a gig to that light weight?!Guitarjeff wrote:I auditioned for Ozzy's band back in the mid 80's (Zak Wylde got the gig![]()
I was thrilled just to jam with Ozzy's band. Randy Castillo (RIP) was really cool and awesome to play with. Don Airey too.
Of course Ozzy wasn't there.

Still no Dumble samples, but the more I read, the more I discover that it's fairly well-known and "legendary", whereas I thought it was more an independent boutique builder kind of thing.
This guy makes no bones about who his inspiration is for his amps, so if you can get tones like those in the "OverDrive Supreme" samples below, you'll be in the right ballpark:
http://michaellewismusic.com/fuchs/samples.html
It's important to note that with double-stop techniques, while the distortion is definitely more pronounced and... hrm... "granular"? sounding like most amps, it still doesn't get all flappy sounding like every sim I've heard.
Greg
[edit: PS, I in no way condone Michael Lewis's 'Adult contemporary' style of backing tracks.

SRV played through Dumbles also. Not exclusively, but he used the Super Overdirve a lot.Lunch Money wrote:That Uberschall sounds fizzy! I LIKE it, don't get me wrong, but it's a bit soft around the edges. I was surprised, as I don't know much about those amps and I've always been told they're good.

Here's my wishlist. 5 great amps perfectly simulated...what a dream!
no other ampsim can do that yet.
Make it simple! few amps but the most real you can.
( In other words: I don't want to wait another year to see this thing finished :_(
