The kind of thing that involves some late nights. So props to the team.
Absolutely, they had to add in the ability to have add ins and update the web site and sales side....then they had to remove it all! They could however of announced that that was what they were going to do a bit earlier, but at least it's over now.

Anyway, as everyone has said, well done Bitwig for responding this way, if you a boost sales, drop V5 soon with some requested feature(s) and a lot of people will suddenly update!!!

I can see that we all want new plugins for free but at the same time, we can not force this on a free developer as we do not own the product. Bitwig owns their work and we only have a license that entitles us to use it on up to 3-4 machines.
I get that people have resent of how they have introduced their new plugins but they had every right to do so how they like.
No-one wanted anything for free, they should have been covered by the upgrade plan.
They have no right to go against their own promises which is why this kicked off as it did

I was just starting to really rely on Bitwig for music-making when this happened. My upgrade plan had lapsed a few months ago so I didn't feel personally wrong-footed but I still thought that the add-on direction (and the way it was announced) was a terrible mistake.

I'm really impressed that Bitwig did the right thing here. I'm glad that the community responded, I'm glad that Bitwig listened to that response, and I'm optimistic for the future. I do think that the hurt and anger was, in large part, an indication of how much people care about the software. And I don't think this is necessarily just brand loyalty--it's natural for people to become emotionally attached to the tools they use to do what's most important to them.

Now that the path forward is clear, I'll be renewing my upgrade plan immediately. The spectral devices are right up my alley, with some features that I'm pretty sure have never been offered before, and I love that they're fully integrated devices rather than plugins. Well done, all. Back to music!

Pity it caused so much collateral damage by dividing elements of the community and also now several content makers may not be producing Bitwig videos.
Two TubeWiggers I know personally were holding their BW content pending any update that might clear the air. Now that's done, they will be back to it, because it's the product they ultimately want to use and share with their audience. Can't speak for others like Venus, Benn Jordan and so on, but my guess is that they will also make a return. Possibly they will explore other options, for long term security, since it is a business for them.

DiBase wrote: Tue Oct 11, 2022 11:14 am The more I read here, I think Bitwig is not to be blamed here. The reason being You're not even willing to give them some time of maybe more than one week to sort this out and discuss the issue internally is quite egoistic and dickheaded...
What's egoistic or dickhead about expecting a company to say something to it's customers feeling they're not treated properly. Anything, just a short tweet or something saying: we've heard you, we're working on a solution! could have gone a long way. Anything in this vein would have calmed the waves.

Doesn't matter what you think about the payed add-ons, you not seeing how disastrous their communication was during this last week (and this was not the first time, it was nearly as bad when they introduced their unique subscription model) baffles me.

Anyway, I'm very happy how it turned out at the end. In my opinion this was the only right move, so thanks Bitwig :tu:

They have rectified that is good. That they deliver what they have promised is as simple as that.

The surprising part here is they decided to "move forward" by sticking to their original upgrade plan.

So after all the speculation about investor pressure, inflation issues, etc... if it wasn't working before, why go back to the old way of doing things? Makes this seem like they broke their original bargain because they thought they could do so and just get away with it.

Glad everyone finally got what they paid for. My GAS for Bitwig has been chilled for a bit though. Think I'll stick with Reaper for a while longer.... This dust up has made me reconsider the value of having a DAW that just primarily acts as a plugin host.

Yes, thank Bitwig for listening. I'm sure it is a hard pill to swallow but you've done the right thing. I hope that a lot of people upgrade now and see the value added. Good people doing the right thing (eventually counts) deserve to be supported.
