Don't sweat it. This is a highly subjective game. Our ears lie, auditory memory is short and can't be trusted. We are subject to persuasion and manipulation with good marketing and we have a bias to like what we just bought. Contradictions from people lacking self-awareness is fairly common on KVR. I would likely fail the continuity test myself given how long I've been on the forum.
I don't buy the UA hype either. UA are at least competitive in my experience, often better that most but only occasionally the best out there. That is as I hear them (opinion). I've outlined technical shortcoming of UA's offerings previously and won't rehash those points here. Their recent pricing models and native support have me making the occasional purchase again. This is something that I didn't think would happen. I really like Opal which isn't an emulation of anything as far as I know.
I would be interested in knowing which emulation(s) you found wanting. A PM would do it. No shouting guaranteed.

Yes, that's why I asked, I genuinely wanted to find out which was the bad one and what out there is better. Now we'll never know.Scotty wrote: Fri Feb 07, 2025 2:18 pm Don't sweat it. What's the point in saying something so vague that no one knows what you're talking about? You'd accomplish the same thing by saying nothing at all, and in less time.Synthman2000 wrote: Fri Feb 07, 2025 10:03 am I'll freely say what I wish and give as much or as little detail as I wish.

Extremely generous from UAD to offer the 1176 for free, as well as the others (LA2A, Pultec, etc). Those are like the most popular stuff too. They went from a company that sold plugins for a few hundred each, and also required a $1k interface that is so weak that you probably have to add more DSP hardware to crazy affordable prices + native now, really nice company. That said Trackcomp still sounds better.

I think some of those are cut down in features. But, yes, it is nice to get quality tools for free.jtsterays wrote: Fri Feb 14, 2025 4:06 pm Extremely generous from UAD to offer the 1176 for free, as well as the others (LA2A, Pultec, etc). Yet their 'generosity' ends at the point where they no longer deem it a financially lucrative model. They're hoping the free plugin draws interest in buying others. And they likely saturated the pro market thus saw the need to purse the lower end (beginners and hobbyists), just like Waves and IKM have done before them. It's not out of the goodness of their hearts and any statements to the opposite is just marketing.

Oh yea ofc, they're a company after all, using the old formula would just kill them. But as of right now they're not really doing anything wrong imo. Quality stable plugins + native, fair prices, good supports, some will say ILOK but without it the whole native catalog would be free rn. For the freebies they could've chosen the legacy version or the less popular plugins but they have 3 of most popular ones (cut down feature but sound is still the same). I remember about the SSL drama where they charged the native port + SC filter for DSP users. But my perspective is that of a new UAD user that don't care about DSP, and for me UAD looks pretty good right now. What ever their intentions are, at the end of the day, lots of people are benefiting.VitaminD wrote: Fri Feb 14, 2025 5:46 pmI think some of those are cut down in features. With all my yapping though, I don't use any of them. DMG and Cytomic are still better.

Well, UA is a retail manufacturing business of sorts, and that's usually how those all work. I suppose it would've been better to NOT give anything out free, then they could've just still been 'UA' and not some shady business that god forbid is out trying to make new sales by giving out some free promo plugs..VitaminD wrote: Fri Feb 14, 2025 5:46 pm Yet their 'generosity' ends at the point where they no longer deem it a financially lucrative model. Test it in PD - easy to see. Then compare it to DMG 1176 or Softube FET mk2. There are already also several reviews on youtube pointing out the same. Too bad - because it has great att/rel action.

Yes it is typically how it works. But also I wouldn't get hearts in my eyes for a company, especially for doing normal business tactics. Which was my point..mothra wrote: Fri Feb 14, 2025 11:57 pmWell, UA is a retail manufacturing business of sorts, and that's usually how those all work.
