That is the whole point. Now the end user has the control over what he/she wants

From an ugly duckling to the finest looking GUI out there, IMHO, thanks to Youn who made the YounSoft advanced theme:

Not sure about "finest" but it definitely has a more open, nicely balanced, more streamlined and less cluttered look and is the first one I like. Reminds me a bit of Podium. Nice job.

That's excellent. I've been playing with it for a bit and he's not only made the only genuinely good looking theme (imvho) in Reaper, it's actually extremely usable.

Even the MIDI editor looks good, with smart colour choices, which is usually the hallmark of a dreadfully unusable skin in Reaper.

Yep, although I hate bright colours and prefer simple/minimalist look, this theme really looks "coherent" and good.

"It's just the beginning" as Reznor would say.

Cheers!

I like it.

That YounSoft theme is very nice. Is it only the light grey? I'd switch to it if it was dark grey.

track, mixer, toolbar panels, track colors etc. are no png's in this theme, so you can easily select darker greys in REAPER's color scheme window.

the faders and icons however are png's (but these could be edited in this fine free app for instance: http://www.getpaint.net/index2.html

edit/ correction: the toolbar (left above) IS a png - so you'd need to edit that one in an image editor. But I'm pretty sure darker versions of this brand new theme will soon appear at the Cockos forum. I think this light one is a joy to work in, I never used software that is more easy on the eyes. And it SOUNDS so good! :D

First one I see making use of advanced skinning option that I could actually live with, all the other ones are too distracting and FisherPrice looking to do any serious work with, but I still prefer the Akoustic series of old style skins.
No, that wasn't me.

in all of these examples the incoherent use of gradients make the GUIs look very amateurish. and what's with the use of the sonar gray everywhere?

I guess all this is a step forward, but there's plenty of miles to walk to land on a truly ergonomic and well designed interface.

Yep, I turned that off a long time ago. The good thing is that it is just a single checkbox to untick in the preference and all that stupid looking gradient/shadow is instantly gone.

good to know.

That last one is MUCH better then any other I've seen. I wouldn't go as far as saying it's the best looking GUI by any stretch, IMO, but it's definitely better then the toy GUI choices earlier in this thread.

Maybe one day it will be something I can look at again. But still, not for me. Glad it is coming along though. Once a few good schemes come out, then maybe Justin can start tweaking things, like the stuff I mentioned earlier in this thread. Start with the sheer number of windows and tabs needed, and kill half of them. Just my opinion, of course.

Has anyone made a Tracktion scheme yet? I like the simplistic look a LOT. And I don't have time to make one, so if there is one, let me know.

Just checked the new T3 look, it has those icon to show/hide different part of the UI while Reaper also has icon to show/hide different part of the UI except the icon are shaped like tabs while T3 are not; so, functionality wise, what's the difference exactly?

And frankly, I think the new T3 browser looks like s***, there was a guy who made a browser for Tracktion (can't remember who it was) which integrated seamlessly into the app, looked much better than this new contraption so I'm surprised they didn't copy that instead.

give the skinners a chance to get up to speed before ya slight the whole evolution of the reaper interface.
