In geology, we use goniometers to measure the angles between crystallographic faces for mineral identification...xh3rv wrote:I couldn't say it with a straight face in a conversation, but the technical term is 'goniometer'

You just had to say that didn't you?

OTOH "You'd need a goniometer to measure that guy's pair of rocks" means something less insulting than I would have figured

I avoid trouble with a simple rule: never measure them in pairs.

With phasers in both FX slots it's possible to give Diva a pair of small stones.

Phase correlation should not be foreign to you guys, although not explained, I *meant* using that particular toolk while testing patches (such as bass and certain drums) in your projects.
Interesting no one is really using frequency analysis at the very least. We cannot rely soly on our ears, unfortunately.. because of the curvature of our hearing and how calculations based on that does not always translate well directly to monitor or other listening source.
- For example, I notice many bass patches with waaaay too much bottom for the type of bass. Of course many people split the freq of the bass and have two or more layers in electronic music these days. Same for drums..
Would be nice to see a bank designed in this manner with top bass and bottom bass.. thin texture layers or beds for background...blah blah
I was simply curious but what I am finding out is that it is more aabout impressing the ears when the patch is played solo. I just wonder sometimes how BigTone, Howard and others are making patches that fit many contexts right off the mark. What are the major things to consider?
Interesting with use of MIDI clips.. That's a quick method of forming a context I didn't think of before. Good one
Also, I understand completely that music and sound can be used in many contexts but certain basic needs or avoidances are required I would think. You cannot just create a patch that is a wall of sound and expect to build anything around that without some heavy processing behind the instrument, for example. It may sound good when played by itself but when trying to use it for music there is much chopping away to be done where it loses that solo sheen.

Small stones? She friggin grows a nice pair of boulders that clasp your so far to the sides of your head you'd swear the little tips were touching on the other side...of course depending on how fast and deep setting....errxh3rv wrote:With phasers in both FX slots it's possible to give Diva a pair of small stones.
