I don't know if I agree but funny the same.

i don't understand what the problem is with the alternate registration for melodyne? took a minute, and...done.
no more complicated than with any of my other plugins...and (for me), ANY alternative to a dongle is worthwhile.

I need one for Synthogy Ivory and had to update an older ilok to get it to work. After that I am not even aware of it plugged into the back of my box. I think I am going to get a short usb cable extender with a 90 degree male end and just let it hang down from back of usb port. Was moving box and almost snapped it off on daw desk leg. Forgot it sticks out back there. This way it's not rigid mounted.

I absolutely refuse to use synths that require dongles. They are a major barrier, and if security is a concern there are better methods.

It still surprises me that dongles warrant a 12 page thread. They aren't going to go away, and you either like the s/w or not. TBH I have far bigger things to irritate me, like the frequency of upgrades, the constant changing of OSs, the lack of paper manuals, synths that don't have LFO intro/delay, my lack of musical skill, not enough chilli in Subway's Southwest sauce. The list is endless.

Really, dongles are a non-issue. I've had one for Cubase since 1989. And in all those 23 years there have always been bigger issues to get me moaning...

I will admit that the old parallel port dongles were more user-friendly with their pass-through ports, and considering that you can barely see my Bluetooth adapter and one of my USB drives, they could be quite a bit smaller and less obtrusive (nearly breaking them by moving your case, etc.).

My main issue with the dongle is moving it the Win 7 64 bit computer. I'm terrified of this. I have my Nexus and Arturia license on it, and I'm fairly certain something will go wrong.
(I could be wrong)
Some of the Win 7 64 bit installs have been quite trying.

I suppose with older software and drivers it could be, but as long as you have the latest (modern OS) drivers, you should be fine 99% of the time. :)

I've never had any troubles related to Win7 64-bit drivers. :)

I have Win7x64 iLok1 (now replaced with iLok2), eLicensener: No problems. You'd be fine.

I hope. I resisted dongles for a long time, but the installs went without a hitch and it's pretty much a nice red nightlight on my computer. Never had a hiccup from it (except for maybe how long it takes Analog Factory to load. But in all fairness, it's like 3500 presets, so I cut it some slack.)
