Great stuff chaps and chapesses, some very good sounding tracks this month.
And I wouldn't listen to GS about synth either as a lot of prejudices were revealed in the DIVA thread when someone posted a blind test Moog-Diva which revealed no one really had a clue...
I also think there's a tendency overall to think that hardware which people paid through the nose for MUST be better than software just because of the price difference and cost justification. That said, GS know effects very well and opinions are more balanced when it comes to that than synths I find.

Hello everyone,
This is my first post on KVR's boards, although I have read lots of threads on here for a number of years.
So anyway, what I used for my track ..
Host DAW : Cubase 6
19 instances Minimoog V ( free version )
2 Cubase reverbs
A couple of delays and compressors
Although perhaps not as loud as other entries, please feel free to turn it up !
http://soundcloud.com/third-floor/minib ... sc42-entry
Hope you enjoy it and I welcome any feedback ..
Third Floor.

Hi,
Here's my another try to OSC.
Bumtu - Digital Nomad
Synth: 33 instances of Minimoog V 60-days demo.
I started work with free version of mini but finally used fully functional 60-days demo with access to all settings of mod matrix, chorus, delay and that's was very cool.
Host: Live.
Host FX: EQ, delay, reverb, autopan, autofilter, utility (vol gain), compressor, limiter.
Free FX: Kjaerhus Classic Chorus, MStereoExpander (Melda).
Enjoy and good luck to everybody!

Welcome here Third Floor, but can you be more specific which delays and compressors where used?

OMG... this is epic, very modern. Oh boy, I am getting ready to tweak my tune, stiff competition in this round for sure.jasinski wrote:Ok, throwing my hat in this ring.

All sounds in this track were created using over 30 instances of Arturia Mini V virtual synthesizer. Programmed and mixed in Ableton Live 8.
Additional processing with Ableton Live's built in EQ, Saturation, Compressor, Reverb, Ping Pong Delay, Fxpansion's Free Compressor, Limiter 6, and Voxengo's free parametric EQ.
Sound design by me.
Great work!

Hi V'ger .. thank you for the kind welcome.V'ger wrote:Welcome here Third Floor, but can you be more specific which delays and compressors where used?
Sorry, should've been more specific .. I used the standard Compressor and Maximiser from Cubase 6, as well as a couple of instances each of the Cubase Stereo Delay and Pingpong Delay on certain sounds.
Also, having reviewed my composition again to make sure of the names, I also used 1 instance each of the Cubase 6 Stepfilter and DualFilter.
Regards,
Third Floor.

I read this and thought, Cubase 6 has a Maximiser?? and what do you know, I'd never spotted it before!!Third Floor wrote:I used the standard Compressor and Maximiser from Cubase 6
So in the time honoured tradition of tweaking up until the deadline I've remixed my track using the Cubase Maximiser for a little more volume and resubmitted. Please download again for new version, I'm definitely done now!
Cheers Third Floor! You've taught me something new on your arrival here, welcome to the competition!

Cheers, that clears it up. By the way, the Cubase Stepfilter is one thing I really miss after emigrating.. The highpass mode is sweet.

Hello all!
http://soundcloud.com/elipsis1/elipsis1-propitiation
My goal for this track was to make something powerful, melodic, and modern.
The track was composed in ableton live 8.
Here is the breakdown:
The kick drum was composed of 5 minimoogs, and had mid/side eq from ableton on the group.
The snare drum was composed of 6 minimoogs, and had eq from ableton, also the "cathedral" reverb from ableton was used with all the low end rolled off, and the decay extended to 14 seconds.
Total track count was 72, a lot of this was frozen as the song was built, then when it came time to render, all tracks were unfrozen and the output was 24bit 48kHz aif. It took 20 minutes to render on a MacBook Pro i7.
The main bus had the following:
1976 ableton compressor
EQ Eight in M/S mode
Ableton Multiband Compressor
Limiter
The sends had the following:
A was assigned to the "concert hall" preset from ableton live.
B was the "simple delay" from ableton live.
The track count of 72 seems high, but a lot of those tracks were for periodic minimoog FX for transitions.
Also, most of the loud portions of the song have heavy track duplication and panning paired with track shifting to thicken everything up.
If anyone has any further questions let me know, hope you enjoy it!

I just couldn't resist, this took about 3 hours to crank out, for those that wonder about me, my first love is the blues, even Edgar Froese likes them!
I'll be sorry when I only get 3 hours of sleep for work but it will be worth it.
Song Title is key88-MoogyBlues
DAW is Reaper Audio 64 bit V4.25
12 instances of the demo version of the arturia minimoog V
5 instances of the classic compressor on the 'drums'
