Luckily I'm not. There are tiny little niggles on Windows, but overall it runs beautifully and the workflow is to die for.hivkorn wrote:if you are on OSX don't expect stability , S1V3 is a real nightmare...My bets are on Studio One

I get your positive spin but I personally could give two shits about Retrologue 2. I do feel good for you that you are stoked about it though so at least I'll say it's not for nothing.BERFAB wrote:Not personally crazy about these paid step upgrades, but two things will have me shell out this time:
1. The Retrologue 2 upgrade costs $49. The 8.5 upgrade includes Retrologue 2 and costs $49. Done.
In my honest opinion, these are features that should have been there a long time ago. I couldn't even finish the video after watching Steinberg trying to convince me that these features are great thing when they should have been there for years.BERFAB wrote:2. The one truly useful upgrade feature for me is the CTRL disabling of the MIDI snap feature. I know there's a lot of good useful stuff in there, but this one feature really makes my day. What can I say? I'm a simple guy. Very. Simple.

You could go with Sonar Platinum and get new bugs as well as old bugfixes... whistleface...Orbit-50 wrote:Forget the fighting guys. This crappy subscription update sucks. I've lost it for this outdated DAW. It's clear to me that Steinberg is all about marketing hype, and no real progress or substance. I'm thoroughly disgusted with this. I'm done at 7.5. Not throwing any more money into the Steinberg trough. My bets are on Studio One and Bitwig for the future.

I agree with you on these point , the workflow is really wonderfull. This is the best workflow of all the DAW actually , but this is all it have.I have a 'standard Imac' with no modification , and nearly every plugin was unstable , softube , waves ,NI ..... , presonus said the stability problem was only for a few users ..i can't believe it , i 'm not the only one who bought a Imac !Luckily I'm not. There are tiny little niggles on Windows, but overall it runs beautifully and the workflow is to die for.
I finally back to Cubase and everything works fine now , no more crash.I can make music now , instead of thinking about what plugin I should use or not ...

Your suggestion to use Sonar Platinum is offensive, and I have reported you to the mods.trimph1 wrote:You could go with Sonar Platinum and get new bugs as well as old bugfixes... whistleface...Orbit-50 wrote:Forget the fighting guys. I thought Cubase 8.5 was implementing retina support?TheoM wrote:I was all convinced ready to start using Cubase as my main DAW again.. and i forgot how borderline unusable it is on a retina screen.. wow! so blurred! On my imac which IS the studio machine though, it's flawless as that is a non retina. So i think I will just have to grin and bear it if working on a macbook project. After watching every single video here all the little changes will indeed add to some improved workflow, so probably worth it.

Transport Video: Nice stuff, the new punch markers and the new additional cycle blocks.
The former, punch markers independent from loop markers, seems like something that should be possible in every modern host.
Observation: What we're seeing with Cubase looks like them circling back through 10+ past years of workflow FR's.
I recall a lot of that stuff from the old Cubase.Net forum.

Huge customizations all around, except the MixConsole... still 50 shades of Grey. I don't get it.
Surely I'm missing something somewhere. (Yes, I saw the screenshots earlier showing user-customized views... a lot of lighter-colored screens -- except the mixconsole, which remains grayish). Or did I miss something?
I own 7.5 and was a breath away from upgrading to v8 last night. (In fact, I left it in the shopping cart so I could think about it a bit more... and we all know what happened this morning). I could've upgraded to 8 and gotten the 8.5 free (at least, I think that's how it works).
That being said, I can't stare at a dark gray console all day long, so maybe it was a blessing in disguise.
If someone can show me a screenshot with the mixconsole main section a nice green or light blue or well, anything but gray, I might still buy the 8.5 upgrade.

I've said this before but it may be worth repeating because I still think it's true.
If Cubendo - ever - fully moves into a more modern unified UI, it's going to be a monster. I've been expecting that since mid v6/7 and it hasn't happened yet but it kinda has to happen eventually. Just using Sequel (and using a bit of imagination) gives some real insight into what that might be like.
No idea why they haven't done it yet. It must be a truly monumental coding job, that change, given the large legacy code base.
Honestly, objectively, one reason Studio One appeals to lots of people who've used Cubase in the past is because it kind of feels like what Cubase should have turned into years ago, generally speaking, UI wise.

It's a shame they still haven't addressed this issue. High-DPI/Retina class screens have been on the market since 2011/2012 and Cubase is one of the worst looking programs I've seen on them. I can't recall any other non-optimized program looking that poor before, so they must not be using OSX's native scaling. Have they at least updated the text fields to support retina, like in Reason, or are they also pixelated and blurry?TheoM wrote:I was all convinced ready to start using Cubase as my main DAW again.. and i forgot how borderline unusable it is on a retina screen.. wow! so blurred!
