Thanks. HALion 7 is a really inspiring tool. I know without the original audio it's hard to tell what happened, but the results are nothing like the source, which is a granular glitched out sequence.
I think I'll make a video next time. It's nice when KVR can be a place where people can share stuff like you've done that can help motivate people to make music.

You can always use Soundcloud to share audio tracks/demos, just paste the URL of a given track and the player will appear in your post.billcarroll wrote: Sat Feb 18, 2023 6:59 pmThanks. Not the same, but try the recorder while playing padshop and turn each recording into a granular zone.aMUSEd wrote: Sat Feb 18, 2023 5:25 pm I wish Halion could import Padshop presets to work on them further
e.g. Auto Next + Start/Stop=Audio treshold

You can save HALion Mediabay presets with various filtering criteria set, including preset type. But, if you save those settings as the default, it still loads its own view. This might be to save them from support requests (otherwise you get people who overwrote their defaults and can't see stuff.. ) If it's not hard coded to behave this way then placing the "default" preset file elsewhere (than the user directory) might be enough to override. HALion's known to pull settings from multiple folders instead of one place..Examigan wrote: Sat Feb 18, 2023 11:58 amI'd like to set its default to show All Presets, but I don't think it can do that (?). I tried to rate some of the ROM presets 5 stars and then sort them, but you still have to select All Presets to actually see them.

Thanks for the info.
After thinking it over, it's not a big deal I guess.
I know where to click to show all of them now, so that's good.

They're essentially the same. But FM Labs uses a Macro (with graphics) to pretty things up a bit and look more like a synth hosted inside HALion, where FM Zone is the actual HALion engine in the background minus any macro.j wazza wrote: Sat Feb 18, 2023 12:43 pmIm a bit confused about the difference between fm zone and fm lab, i thought fm zone looked a bit more modular/customisable

From what I can tell, the capabilities are the same, minus whatever you might get from being able to do HALion stuff. The most obvious thing to me (having no experience with HALion) is that it looks like it would be easy to layer zones (including FM zones) in HALion whereas FM Lab is just a single standalone instance. Just basing this on the manuals and videos so I may be terribly wrong.PAK wrote: Sat Feb 18, 2023 8:58 pmThey're essentially the same. FM Lab itself can layer up to 4 FM engines.nominil wrote: Sat Feb 18, 2023 9:23 pmFrom what I can tell, the capabilities are the same, minus whatever you might get from being able to do HALion stuff. The Macro tab is a graphical interface which presents the HALion engine in a different way. So Macros might exclude things (For example, you won't be able to find the HALion 3 or Waldorf filter types in FM Lab, but you can select them in an FM Zone tab), whilst making other things easier / more obvious.nominil wrote: Sat Feb 18, 2023 9:23 pmFrom what I can tell, the capabilities are the same, minus whatever you might get from being able to do HALion stuff.
FWIW If you go the zone route you can just keep adding and adding (and adding!) Zones to layer a gazillion FM engines.. which is a bit more than 4

FM Lab is interesting, but I might purchase it if it is 50% discounted.
On another thought, I actually don't need it! So, nothing interesting here for me
It is too late Yamaha! The market is full of FM synths! Halion 7? Nah!

Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Nothing interesting? I don't think the others have all this:
You can choose from different emulation modes: HALion, FM-X, and DX7.
● In HALion mode, the oscillator works with continuous values, for maximum
precision.
● FM-X emulates the characteristics of Yamaha’s Montage synthesizers.
● DX7 emulates the characteristics of the Yamaha DX7 synthesizer
