Ableton Live 12.1 is released! (Feb26 12.1.10 is out)

Yeah I suppose Live would be best dual monitored, the flipping back and forth is too stilted for how I'm accustomed to.

Though I'd love to have a dual-monitor setup (don't have the space on my desk!) I honestly never really feel the need for 'flipping back and forth': I always start in Session View for trying ideas and seeing how different parts go together, but then when it comes to putting together a track and the mixing process I pretty much just stick in the Arrangement View

The mixer is in Session View. I guess with the new ability to have the mixer and arranger together it's good for people like you for sure. I just always have used the Session View for mixing, if we're talking drawing automation lanes to mix, the trick is to use Utility to get the drawn track gain lanes so you can use the faders in Session for final tweaking of levels.

A few questions about Live;

a) How do people mix in it? I can't seem to gel w/ the gui, the mixer console is another page, it's also front and center, not at the bottom which feels weird to me and the sideways way mix plugins slot in also seems counterintuitive visually.

By adding Utility to the last in the chain and automating it. Lets see if I use the mixer panel more now in 12.1 or not because how used I am using the Utility tool.

Final mix is then done using the "mixer" view as it is usually just +-3dB...

I just went to a lot of effort to categorise all my plugins using the incredibly useful tagging system (wish all hosts had this) but is there any way to now back this up in case some update messes with this? (or if I want to export it into Live on another computer)

Did Ableton remove the keyboard shortcut for Show/Hide Mixer?
I swear to god I was using Ctrl + Alt + number key (2?) to do this. Now it's gone.
Ctrl + Alt + M doesn't even work on my laptop, which is bizarre. Anyone else having an issue with this?

The only thing that currently works for me is Alt + Shift + M, a 'Navigate to Mixer' shortcut, which means I can't use it to hide the mixer when I want.

They should rip off the band aid and just make the show/hide mixer button mappable. It's kind of an important part of the UI.

... and it's got one of those stupid MS Copilot keys where right Ctrl should be. I wonder if that's causing some issue with how Ableton interprets the CTRL key. But then all the other shortcuts work so who knows

For those of you suffering from Ableton keyboard shortcut woes, AutoHotKey for Windows, and Keyboard Maestro on the Mac. Big hint: use the numeric keypad for common commands. I’ve tried the Mac’s own keyboard shortcut utility, but it didn’t seem to work very well. That was back on Ventura though.

Is the keyboard piano active? Sometimes that happens to me and no shortcuts are working.

Maybe the OS or some background app is using the shortcut?

I couldn't have imagined what was running, but my GPU drivers were treating Live like a game, and CTRL + ALT + M was apparently a shortcut in some Nvidia thing that runs in the background. No wonder I couldn't figure out which process might be stealing the inputs. You're a lifesaver.

And further thanks for recommending that app. I'll take a look, especially since I'm not totally confident about editing the registry to remap keys.

Maybe uninstall game drivers and geforce "experience", and install studio drivers without the "experience" ?
