the 129MB download asks to insert Omnisphere before installing, I click cancel and it seems to install anyway. I'll try inserting the v1 disk when I get to my desktop with a CDROM. Has anyone else already tried that?

won't work. it needs the download manager that is in the confirmation email that we did not receive.

we are missing about 20gb of files.

im installed and authorised but omni makes no sound. basically omni is broken right now.

Poor show from spectrasonics.. they are set to make $millions out of this upgrade.. the very least they could of done is make sure they had enough staff/server power to deal with the inevitable.

Indeed. And not a word on Twitter or any forum from Spectrasonics amid the chaos.

Not what I had expected from them.

Post

FTR and FWIW, I feel really terrible for everybody who is experiencing problems with this upgrade. I may be a crappy musician, but I've been marketing online since 2003 and have lived through hundreds of major product launches from some of the biggest names in the business and they almost ALL end like this. There are way too many factors involved to go into the reasons why, but the biggest reason is poor planning. It's always the same response...

We didn't anticipate.

They never do. And they never learn.

I would have been STUNNED if a launch of this magnitude had gone off without a hitch because it is virtually impossible unless you are a company the size of Microsoft or Apple. And even then, I've seen problems.

If it's any consolation to anybody (though it probably isn't) this is going to have repercussions on Spectrasonics previously "spotless" reputation and record. People won't soon forget. And some may never forget. For many, they'll never look at the company the same way again, which is a shame because I called this one a mile away.

My hope is that this all gets sorted out quickly.

If Spectrasonics is smart (and I think they are) they'll make up for this with some kind of bonus upgrade or at the very least a crap ton of stuff added to this synth over the next year or so at NO charge that will have everybody drooling.

And hopefully forgetting.

Because this one is going to sting for a while.

Strange.... direct after registered my Omnisphere 2 upgrade i got a download link to the download manager within my user account with about 18,6 GB of data without having to wait for an e-mail. I also got my e-mail a hour after this with the same links. I hope i didn't start the wrong thing since i got confused by the warning about the dmg thing. But i think since these are the same links with the same content it should work. Not sure if the authorization will work... :scared:

to all the people (like me) who are impatiently waiting for the spectrasonics webstore to open again, here is the perfect diversion:
check out or even purchase the omnisphere gaia soundset from subsonic artz (http://www.sampleism.com/subsonicartz/gaia-omnisphere). note however, that altough this soundset is perfect for ambient music, it may not be suited for those who are especially waiting for the new EDM sounds in omni 2.
cheers

As someone who went through the upgrade process seamlessly:

- I had to log into my account at Spectrasonics, where my original Omnisphere purchase was registered.

- I was prompted for my Omnisphere serial number (and never had to insert a disk). I am not sure why I had to do this, since my original Omnisphere purchase was registered, but I did it anyway.

- I entered my payment information for the upgrade (name/address/credit card)

- I received an "order confirmation" email - like a receipt - but it also contained "purchase links" for Windows and Mac. The email came almost immediately. The presence of the links in this email wasn't immediately obvious.

- The "purchase link" allowed me to download a "download manager".

- The download manager then allowed me to download the entire 20 GB upgrade.

- After downloading the upgrade, it needs to be installed, according to instructions in a PDF that comes with the download.

I think I am remembering all of this correctly. There were about six steps in the entire process for me, but they worked just fine.

thats how it should of been, But I and many others are sitting here with no download manager due to NOT getting any email after purchase.

thats all we are missing is the damn download manager, it should be on our account page. but it's not :-(

what would help is if we had a link to the manager as we have the plugin and data just not the soundsources.

here are my experiences and BAD MOOD about spectrasonics.... F*ck DRM again, yes when it works you dont need to stay online but this shows again how much the connection to the internet can ruin your experience instead of having software (mostly games) on cd without any drm shit (i know pirating blabla).

- my steps:

1. downloaded from my account “Omnisphere 2 Upgrade” = 18.6 GB
2. started Step1 (install Omnisphere Updates)
3. started Step2 (STEAM Library v2)

Image

Image

Image

4. started my daw and loaded omnisphere

5. got challenge code “working challenge code”

6. followed the steps on spectrasonics site and received authorization code
"this worked too"

7. omnisphere said “complete” and had to replace the instance with a new one. then it wanted again teh authorizatin procedure and gave me the strange symbol only

Image

8. Spectrasonics told me i have to run my DAW as an admin (sory this is bullshit!)

then i ran my daw as an admin (i never did this and it runs normal without having to do it also omnisphere1 in the past).

9. now the message pops up

Image

10. i had a different STEAM.lnk in my c:\programdata\spectrasonics folder suddenly which didnt forwarded me to g:\Spectrasonics\STEAM AFTER i had run my DAW as an admin!
to delete the new not working shortcut i had to run CMD as admin and delete the file as it didnt want to delete in win7 normal. so the running as admin MUST HAVE CHANGED something

11. back to 7. and dead end.....

12. Spectrasonics told me they try to fix it yesterday and today i got this message and thought WTF?!?!?

"We're sorry that your experience with the Omnisphere 2 Upgrade was not a smooth one.

It's been our biggest response ever and unfortunately, our site has been completely overwhelmed with all the interest.

Were you ever able to successfully order and download?

Please let us know if you still need assistance.

Best Regards,
"

---- again, yes something MIGHT be expected, slow servers, impatient people etc. but what do you expect? they hype us like that, we musicfreaks expect the 30th april even some like me took few hours off for this event and had couple of beer standing in front of the table and making omnisphere2 launch party, spectrasonics wrote to me "we think we are prepared :)" and sure you are hyped and happy. so everyone saying else and making jokes about us should reconsider his thoughts really....

BAD and FAILED Launch, sure omnisphere 2 will be great, no doubt at all! but i cant even use omnisphere1 now as the authorization f**ks me up!!!!!!!!!!

BRAVOOO!

and now we have to wait till next week it seems.... BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!!!

so everyone who couldnt download Omnisphere 2, maybe you are lucky as you COULD run into the authorization error too and wouldnt be able to use omnisphere 1 atm!!!!

Thank you.... for me it was (still is) a bit different since i already bought the upgrade code a month ago. I just had to log in to my user account and "add another product" via the upgrade code. After several trys i got a chance to go trough the little wormhole in the net and it was registered. Then i got direct the download links within my account. I also got them in the e-mail later but i think because i already paid before i don't had to wait for it. I will see in 4-5 hours if it was the right thing.

Try the authorization process as a different user account with only A-Z and 1-9 in the username, I would be surprised if that was the issue but it was for a game I played recently.

The other option is maybe finding where the authorization is stored and deleting it... but I don't want to make the situation worse than it already is.

You could use a tool like Process Monitor for that on Windows.

My only worry is the authorization is stored in one of the STEAM library database files... I already looked in:

C:\ProgramData\Spectrasonics
C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Spectrasonics
C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Spectrasonics

Didn't see what looked like an authorization in any of those. It could also be in the registry on Windows....

You could also try restoring your old STEAM folder if you made a backup.

Honestly I would probably wait for Spectrasonics to get back to you...
