There’s over two weeks left, including the whole of Christmas so many more pages to come I’m sure. My mic purchase comment was it’s going to be my last big purchase not the thread’s.

Are you safe?

Misha incoming tomorrow; I didn't know there was a competition.

nice!

competition is a strong word for it, but yes.
first, last, most, cheapest, most expensive and of course the elusive "didn't buy anything" all get special mention in the end of year speeches.
I was pretty close to "didn't buy anything" in the last few years past, but, holy crap not this year.

Me too! I rolled in to Black Friday thinking "cool, I'll just upgrade Nepheton and pick up Thorus and Sparkverb". Now I own my first hardware synths in 20 years, there's three of them, and they are all semimodular monosynths

Plus also grabbed Synthmaster 2 and Modwave Native.

Damn. I'm poor again. Oh well, happens every year.

But at least you're having a good time with your hardware. I'm having so much fun recently, so nice to have the passion back for synths.

Im thinking of replacing my second 'original' Mikrophonie with one of the new Mk3s, which reuses the mods by Mutable (ie Ears). Anyone tried it or an Ears versus the original? Worth it?

I only have the MI Ears, but for that price (Thonk) for the gate and envelope follower features alone, it seems like a great deal, at a third of what Ears goes for. The improved Amp range is definitely a plus. The gate/envelope jumpers are kind of a pita if you like to tinker a lot, and I've meant to make a little breakout panel with switches, for ages, to alleviate that need.
Thonk wrote:This new version of Mikrophonie improves the amplifier circuit and adds the following features from the Ears version by Emilie Gillet

An envelope follower, translating the decaying amplitude profile of a tap into an envelope CV.
A gate detector, translating taps into gate signals.
The envelope follower and gate detector can process external signals as well as the built in contact mic.

Specs:

High quality Audio Amp with extended gain range over Ears.
External input bypassing the built-in contact microphone.
Envelope follower with 3 preset attack and release times (adjustable by jumper).
Gate detector with 3 preset sensitivity levels (adjustable by jumper) and +8V gate output.
Three indicator LEDs for amplifier clipping, envelope follower level and gate detector activity.
I'm not a musician, but I've designed sounds that others use to make music. http://soundcloud.com/obsidiananvil

Yeah no regrets at all. We'll see how much overlap there is between the Kobol Expander and the Pro-1.

Been a while since I bought any modules. Tom's stuff is great tho, and not too costly. :tu:

Thinking about an EHX Attack Decay. It seems like it'd be pretty good for the bass and maybe e-kalimba too. About half the time when I record bass parts I've got Velvet Machine or a volume pedal for swells, but polyphonic swells would be... really swell. Too bad my eBow doesn't work worth a damn on bass but this might be the next best thing.
