uhhh, can you say Izotope trash?Mokafix wrote:Not only revalver II.
Something else is coming, that can reproduce other existing amp sims models, and much more too. And it takes only a few minutes to make your own amp from scratch...

Can you give us a clue? Do you mean another new amp sim, or something like SynthEdit for guitars (AmpEdit - that would be pretty cool!)?Mokafix wrote:Not only revalver II.

Hi there I would just like to post my clip that I made using all ampsim distortion: using the jcm800 sim and Xmastube. The bass is my guitar pitchshifted and then using some cab emulation from voxengo boogex. The key to the guitar & bass sound - I was going for the 5150 death metal/in flames sound comes from some pretty hardcore equing (cant emphasise how important this is) and layering the guitars by having 3 tracks (2 panned 100% hard left and right - the JCM's split 20ms apart, and xmas tube dead center with 6ms delay) Gave the best stereo image I found without having to double or even triple track. The playing is pretty sloppy but it was more just a test of heavyness lol - The drums are tweaked dfh samples.
This should satisfy those heavy gutar freaks out there

So dont tell me software cant make some heavy ass sounds

In case you consider white, pink or brown noise (or whatever colored noise it was) "heavy ass", then it can.agentdark1 wrote: So dont tell me software cant make some heavy ass sounds
In case you also consider "definition", "attack", "dynamics" and what not to be part of a proper guitar sound, then, uhm... I leave it to you to decide what my comment would look like.

agentdark1, I really like that clip. But it doesn't surprise me that it's done in software (I would have believed hardware, too, for that matter). Empty Uranus's clip, OTOH, has a kind of guitar sound that I don't think I've ever heard anyone accomplish with software.
Fortunately for me, software does fine for what I want to do. But I can understand how software amp sims don't quite cut it (yet) for some people.

The clip I posted wasnt exactly the best master or proffesionally recorded thing - it was thrown together in about 15 mins - what I was getting at is that you can get a good heavy tone with some tweaking and erm, most heavy-ish guitar rythm sounds tend to lack alot of dynamics - I would say that Meshuggah for example have a pretty compressed, but definative sound: look up their cover version of benzin. The swedish 5150 sound tends to be less definative and lacking in attack, its more round and smooth with a razor like rasp. Altough Ion Dissonance have done some great stuff with the 5150. Please find me a heavy guitar tone that fits your standards? - for gods sake do not say linkin park or papa roach or the like.

I liked that sound, too. But WHOA! How long did it take you to come up with the process? Jesus - you could have cured world hunger!
Check out "Sky of Grey":

I just wrote/recorded this on Tube Baby. I know that's not the most modern sound in the world, but I swear - I love that old Sabbath Bloody Sabbath low-mid "grunt" that thing gives!
In fact - I got bored and am in the process of recording "A National Acrobat" right now - just because that sound is pretty close.
Y'all wish me luck, though. I'm going to have to try to sing that bitch, and I've got a feeling I'll be coughing up blood and testicles at the end of the day!

Judging from what little of the guitars I could hear underneath the bottomless kick drums and cymbals, I'd agree! My spies inform me that agentdark1 wrote:Hi there I would just like to post my clip that I made using all ampsim distortion: using the jcm800 sim and Xmastube... Btw, I've never been able to get any output from XmasTube whatsoever, no matter how I tweaked the knobs. I've tried sending stereo, mono, recorded, softsynth, pretty much everything through it, but all I can use it for is a rather effective channel silencer. What's the secret?

Distressors absolutely kill. I bought one of the first few hundred units, and regret having had to sell it every day since...herr_prof wrote:it may be something magical about a brent averil mic pre going through a distressor into a maitek a/d in a hd3 system, but amp farm sounds pretty good in a mix

I am not a heavy guitar freak. From what I understand you used one track. Fed that into 3 different tracks.
1) JCM--panned left
2) JCM--panned right
3) Xmas Tube
What were the delay settings on the JCM when you say they were 20ms apart? Did you have one delay at 20ms and one at 40ms?

Install:
Simply unpack the included folder into your
VSTpluginfolder, thats all.
(You NEED the whole folder for the plugin to work.)
Inside the main XmasTube folder MUST be the another XmasTube folder.

I liked agentdark1's little clip there... it was a little extreme for my taste, and kinda hard to hear what was going on (that could be a mixing/mastering prob) but the parts I DID hear had serious promise. A real nice bite to it.
Here's a little minute and a half clip of a cover I'm working on, tell me what you think. Is it software? A mic'd amp? Does it sound like doo-doo either way? You tell me.
