hi rob,

I'm still trying to recreate the sound of the sample, that I previously posted (http://www.zshare.net/audio/592702552dbb9bd9/)
I (theoretically) understand the basics, like wave forms, envelopes, lfo's, fx's but I don't know how to combine those things to get the sound that I want.
I thought that trying to recreate existing sounds, would help me in becoming a better sound designer, but at the moment I'm just randomly turning some knobs.
Maybe you have some helpful advice for me, after 20 yrs of experience? :)

hi there sarc, for a start DO NOT try and tweak existing sounds of other presets this will get you nowhere in sound design although it's known to be done.this is my pet hate - tweaking presets :x
anyways that was'nt a dig at you it's just that if you start out sound designing by tweaking other peoples work then you'll get stuck in the rut.

my advice is when you start out to make a particular patch for any given synthesizer then always start with the "INIT or Default" patch :) this way you can call it all your own work..don't get into the bad habit of tweaking mate..not good.

it can take 3-4 months to create a soundbank and i wonder how some do it in weeks..baffling aint' it? read the first line of my reply...not so baffling now eh?

if you want help i'll show you how to do it from the basic waveforms provided.
i'll have plenty of time after next week as im now looking for something else to work on till sylenth V2 :)

anyways i hope this helps.

best

rob

hi rob,

yeah you're right. Using presets isn't a good start for creating a new patch.

Wow, I would really appreciate your help with that. When you have the time for it then just let me know.

best regards

next week im taking a holiday with my kids so when i get back i'll get some basic tutorials typed out and sent to you on the settings of how to make the likes of basses/leads/pads etc
if we have the same synths it makes it easier.
rob :)

cool, I'm really looking forward to this.
I wish you happy holidays :)

Here are a couple of sounds I'm looking for, and hopefully Sylenth1 can pull them off:

1. For A Girl

I think this one is actually a guitar, but hey, if someone can tell me what kind of signal chain it's run through, that'd be great too!

2. About You Now and Cuz I Can

Arksun says this is probably a sync sound, but maybe something close to it? It sounds so hollow and distorted, I just love it.

3. Tell Me

The first synth, kind of chirpy. Tried a few things to modulate the pitch, but I can't really even get it close. Any help here would be great.

Thanks!

Added these to the online presets section:
spaceman wrote:If someone could recreate the plucky bass/lead sound and the pad from the following example, I'd be for ever grateful 8)

audio sample here
PD Humate (play in chords)
1-2-Many wrote:Here's mine while you're at it. Can Sylenth do these sounds?

Bass growl - maybe activated with the modwheel?
Example:

Squiggly LFO pitchy thing
Example:
SFX Squiggly
DR Bass Growl
For the reversed growl part just sample it and reverse it, or make a second preset with rising pitch.

The first one sounds like some kind of guitar riff with a bandpass filter and distortion on it.
The second one is indeed hardsync, you could try LD PortaSync in the online presets section for the second example.

I've added LD Julz and KEY Deep Fifth to the online presets section. The key to these kind of sounds is playing the right chords by the way. There are already several presets in the factorybanks that could be used to create such sounds. In these presets I used the oscs to create the chords, but playing them yourself gives you much more freedom by playing different chords.

can anyone recreate two things from this song for me.. at 115 a drum element comes in it kinda sounds like a tom or a distorted kick... ive tried to tweak different kicks and different toms in sylenth and other plugs and cant quite get it..

the other is the woodblock or clave at 213 if someone can recreate that sounding one i think it all has to do with delay and reverb but i cant quite get it down. with that one what would be great too is some can make the exact sequence in that track and put it into the arp and make a patch
