I mean, it's not a time-limited deal, you can always download it demo it, and then buy it when you feel like it but my gut feeling tells me that you would love it and buy it.EnGee wrote: Tue Nov 15, 2022 8:14 pm Very tempting! Although I've just spent NZ$2000 on my car 'complete' service and insurance, I might find $99 if I squeeze my pockets. Does that include taxes? Or I must add 15% (GST in NZ).
I do have much more than I need though. Actually I don't need it, not even the dark Zebra!

That's great. It gives me enough time to evaluate it. Although, my first impression wasn't that great (Dark Zebra demo). I loaded Massive X, Pigments, Icarus 2 and Phase Plant to compare (in general the sound), and Zebra was the least enjoyable among them. So not sure now! But I will give it enough time before I decide.
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Never used Icarus 2 but Zebra is almost the poplar opposite of how Massive X/Pigments and Phase Plant sound.EnGee wrote: Wed Nov 16, 2022 6:24 amOh it's not time limited then!darkinners wrote: Wed Nov 16, 2022 5:59 amI mean, it's not a time-limited deal, you can always download it demo it, and then buy it when you feel like it but my gut feeling tells me that you would love it and buy it.EnGee wrote: Tue Nov 15, 2022 8:14 pm Very tempting! Hive would be more akin to how those synth sound, if that's what you are after, you can check out Hive 2.

The old right-click method has long been replaced, as it was prone to user error (i.e. accidental MIDI learns).DCrown wrote: Wed Nov 16, 2022 7:36 am Why doesn't Zebra2 have midi learn function by right click selection like Zebralette? Or is there a option to activate midi learn?
Zebralette uses the same MIDI learn mechanism as Zebra2, as long as you have a current version of it installed.
in the upper right corner of the GUI you will find a cogwheel symbol that leads you to the preferences and MIDI learn section.

Hive 2 I like the GUI and design but not the sound and features. It is ok for bread and butter sounds but not really on the same league with Phase Plant and Massive X for example.darkinners wrote: Wed Nov 16, 2022 6:28 am

Well, it is more fair to compare the upcoming Zebra 3 with Phase Plant and Massive X as I think it will be on the same level of sound details.
If I don't have already the mentioned synths, definitely I would buy Zebra legacy now, but I don't think it would add something new for me. I can get better results with other synths. I will wait Zebra 3 and see. I might save this $99 to purchase Zebra 3

I was never drawn to Zebra, briefly tried the CM version and that put me off. Now I'm playing with the HZ version and it's intriguing. First impressions make it seem a versatile combination of quite bread and butter tools with decent filters. The most immediate aspect I get a good result from is the sideband filter; I don't quite understand what it's doing but it's creating interesting organic modulation on string patches. I almost want the synth just for the sideband module.
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.

You can unlearn by double-clicking on the learned control while you are on the MIDI learn page.DCrown wrote: Wed Nov 16, 2022 8:38 am Thanks, I see and it works. Great!
Have to find out how to unlearn, tho...
Ok it's Strg+Alt!
You can also edit and/or remove assignments on the MIDI table page.

If you are interested in some nice Zebra skins, check out Plugmon. Skins are a personal preference thing, but I like what Plugmon is doing with all their skins. Here's Neumann Pro for Zebra. They make ZebraZH and other u-he synth skins and presets. I am not affiliated with Plugmon I am just a happy customer. https://plugmon.jp/
