In the early seventies I saw a TV show with Grace Slick, Waylon Jennings, Peter Yarrow, and I think Dr. John and maybe someone else. So Waylon Jennings, I think it was, says "well this may sound corny, but music can bring a whole country together." To which Grace Slick replies "Oh, name me a country that music has brought together." So Peter Yarrow says "Jamaica, and even the United States." To which Grace responds "is that how Eugene McCarthy got elected?"

This is invariably secret code for "I don't like music".
Or: "I am too dumb to have my own opinion".
nah, it means 'I only listen to Phil Collins'..

Speaking of Phil - I'm not a fan but might still go to a concert (he'll be around here sometime soon) - he's probably got a great band behind him.

p.s.: let's not forget Genesis and his drumming skills (+ the jazz project)

a stupid one - happended at a gig in a small town around here

A guy comes to our keys player during soundcheck and stares at the keys (there were maybe three different keyboards).

Our humble keys player asks him: do you play keyboards (as to start a conversation)

Long pause, ...no...drums...

Keyboards player: hmmm, but you obviously dig keyboards (that guy was staring at the keys motionless for 10 or more minutes)

No...(slowly)...I'm going to beat your ass and your fancy keyboards

k

edit: it isn't about music, but we're OT anyway

Legend has it that Guy Maslin (is that how you spell it?) from The House Of Love was in the studio and turned to the engineer to say "Can you make the snare sound a bit greener?"
Three shall be the number of the counting

And the number of the counting shall be three.

Stupidest thing I've ever heard is that chics love musicians...

I've never seen any evidence (from a personal perspective) to prove that claim. :(

clue: chics love handsome musicians

His work with BrandX is superb - especially on Unorthodox Behaviour and the live album.

In his later work the percussion takes a back seat to the writing, which is a shame, since while he obviously gets a lot off his chest, the songs just don't have many great qualities (no matter how many copies they sell). He even has admitted himself that playing rock beats for so many years (Many too many :P ) means that he finds playing the old stuff properly a bit hard.. That's probably why he did the Buddy Rich thing, just to get his skills back upto par again (having said that he could out drum me most days of the week!)

The quip I made was referring to his work post about 1984/5 (His first couple of solo albums had some notable tracks (The West Side and of course In the Air Tonite), rather than say 'Hate Zone' from Moroccan Roll!

well, this was our singer's hometown (he's famous overthere, over the whole country actually, but that doesn't say much), so he made a deal with the guy. we'd play one of the songs he knew and that made him a bit happier.
