yep perfect the audio outs are killer!!!! and with the "low as you can go" cpu [hahaha doing the cpu Limbo here!] it means one can set up a few instances and get startling sounds... running odd filters and such on the mod audio output is really something else! I mightily thank you William for accepting and implementing this suggestion... it makes EVE into something even bigger than she was...

You idea of adding the mod and fx out's is brilliant!

Thanxs max.

Yes, that is really good. EG: You can put a reverber on the Echo output. So if you put Echo only on one OSC, the reverber goes only for that OSC sound. :P

And we will provide a SINGLE-STEREO-OUT DLL version for those who don't care about multi-outs. ;)

Hehehe, CPU limbo, loved that!!!!

I would say that would really depend on presets and what their typical load is, as well as how many instances you'd typically run with. To me, still too many 'ifs' with your question, William.

well William, I have a funny outlook on things like this... and maybe not the most practicle one... but I think, if you can make it better or the best, then it's worth doing in the long run...

I know in my own life, whenever I accept that challenge, I learn so much that often applies to some project I will be doing next... even when I didn't know I would be soon doing it!

I understand it's a lotta work for you at the moment and likely you could use a breather... but I hope you will go for it when you have the juice to write that ASM code again.

I also understand the need to get stuff out the door and onto the 'shelves' where it can be sold. Maybe you an do both... maybe you can finish this version as best you can... and put it out. And then, a little later also offer the 'super Xtreme pure ASM version'.... I think this could actually work in your favor.

oh hey... plz mention if or if not you got my email about a vst idea???

and once again.... What are the empty black boxes at the upper left for???????????????????????????

Post

Max, the black-box will show a picture, related to the SoundSet loaded.

I got your email, sorry I missed the reply, I'm very bussy with the new codes. ;) But I will reply to it, if not, send me again.

Best Regards, WilliamK

Excellent just X sell Ant! ok thanks William... I realize you must be more than busy but will mail or pm again... so just reply when you have a moment..

you know, I've been just thinking about something and wonder if it might apply here at all...

you know the app that used to be CoolEdit Pro? but is now Adobe Audition?.. right... ok, well in the last year or so when it was still CoolPro, the syntrillium guys [the developers] came up with a proprietary wav format... lossless called *.cel if I recall.... now if I do remember this right, I was quite impressed with that format, except for the unfortunate fact that only CoolPro or Audition handles it directly... but still impressed because it is very small in file size compared to a wav and yet it is still lossless. So what's the point, max??? Just wondering if a format like that might not be handy for these and future synths for the samples.... ie, very fast to load but very small in size and same sound quality as a full on wav.

Just thinking out loud....

DevonB wrote:Well, did the test anyway since I had d/l it before you removed them. ;) I guess my 2.53ghz must suck compared to Ford Prefect's PIII, because with all 3 ocs and 16 note polyphony I was getting around 30% CPU and 45% with LP filter. With Beta 14 I got 20% CPU and 25% with LP Filter. Very confused.

Devon
Wow, nice improvement with Beta 16. About 7-8% with all three ocs and 16 notes, and 14% with LP filter on all of them.

I see one little issue I didn't see before. Looks like you've added a denormal issue? I'm guessing that's not good? ;) CPU spikes up to 40-60% on volume almost being faded out.

Devon

Post

Devon, P4 denormals are easy to fix, just tell me, does the spikes occour on normal envelope fade out or just when you mess with the volume slider? So I know where to place the denormal codes. ;)

Also, about the code, after reviewing it carefully, we will stay with the current Assembler format, no need to do in a different way, too much work. ;)

Normal envelope fade out.

I was at 20% with all 3 and 25% max otherwise...on my P4 1.5(I should be replacing this CPU in the next few months) I had to turn everything down as it's loud on init, but I still get noise(as previously reported)...though that seems a tad less prominent somehow...

NEW BETA UPDATE 17

DevonB, could you please test this out to see if we managed the envelope denormals? ( at least the anti-denormal code is there now ;) )

Also, we fixed a multiple-instance bug, it was making noise on more than one instance, this was fixed.

The envelope also had a small almost undetectable error, we fixed that.

At first, I couldn't get it to do it, even on the old version! Then I retraced my steps and figured it out. It's the code for the Chorus effect. Problem still there with Beta 17. It ONLY spikes if I have the chorus selected, and the modulator volume up for that channel. Have fun! :)

hmmmm not got a P4 here lowly AMD xp so I don't see the spikes... but guess I'll wait for beta 18 then unless there is something I can help with on 17???

Post

hmmm maybe I can add this info... in beta 16 on my amd xp 1800+ cpu

in Chainer... holding down 17 keys steady on... with every possible thing I can find turned on and tweaked around, and three diff samples loaded, and chorus loaded.... I get a max of about 29%... and no peaks really this is just trying to make EVE work her little butt off...

for much more normal use the cpu stays around 6%
