I don't agree. Synth1 has a very nice sound in it's own regard. And don't forget that oversampling takes added CPU-load. I think the real strength of synth1 is the fact that it sounds very good already combined with a very low CPU-load so you can run ten or more of it in a track.

Lately I have been doing serious selections of all my plugins and many good ones have been shelved simply because of too much CPU-load. Synth1 will always be in my plugin set... until it starts using much more CPU.

But if it is an option that we can set or not then I see no problem at all.

However I stand by my statement that it sounds very good already. Remember that the usability of an instrument is hardly determined by 'antialiased oscillators' but much more by how good it will sit in a mix, how versatile it is and if it can add a certain character to your track. Synth1 already scores 100% on those features

I don't agree.
You don't agree with better quality? Obviously oversampling causes a cpu raise ... but oversampling can be done as a user selectable option.. for exemple hidden in the synth1's options dialog.
Lots of synths have a draft to very good quality option for cpu savings to high fidelity sound, why shouldn't Synth1 be better sounding if it's possible?

I don't agreee with you disagreeing with me

The fact that Synth 1 has gained and maintained such a loyal following over the years speaks volumes about it's current sound. As long as Synth1 retains it's wonderful character I'm all for improvements of any kind.

True that. Its outlived all the other freeware heavyweights the likes of Superwave P8 and Crystal. Its a timeless classic VST. That urgently needs an AU version.

I have to agree. It is a damn shame that Mac users cannot use synth1.

Tek, you read me very well... but somehow that didn't surprise me :D

We like/love Synth1, right? That's why we are here posting and hoping for an update... eversince Synth1 has been released it was outstanding in comparison with other soft synths (even comercial ones)... but as soft synths have evolved, it is harder to compair the sound quality in real, nonsubjective maner.

To keep it short, I know that Synth1 really needs an overall sound quality update... without changing enything whatsoever in it's "sound character" and I will say it again... it can be impemented somewhere in the Synth1's options menu so if anyone has a cpu problem can choose a cpu friendly "draft" lower quality...

Try a test for yourself! Regarding this video, can someone tell me in what synth category number Synth one might fit in? Add some filter sat. to help emphasize aliasing

I think you don't get what I (and some others) are meaning here. It's like saying that a MiniMoog, although wildly popular for it's sound, should really need a 'sound upgrade' because it isn't up there with all the modern synths any more

Get my drift :hihi:

Again, a sound doesn't need to be polished to be a 'good sound'. Synth1 has a great character which made it into the legend it is; very versatile, capable of bread-and-butter sounds and sitting very well in a mix. Why make it sound like some other synth while it already sounds like... Synth1 (which, clearly, has become a standard of it's own).

And yes, I think Synth1 is as legendary in the VST-world as the 'Mini' was/is in the analog hardware world :D

NOTE: I did say in my first reply to you that I wouldn't mind a sound-upgrade if it was a setting in the options window 8)

I don't care how it looks, I listen with my ears not with my eyes :D

so you have compromised sound quality over CPU? :?

i would much rather have a quality synth thats kills my pc than 10 average ones that are lite on cpu

I think the focus on "improving" this synth is part of the constant demand for development of all plug-ins. Just look at all the threads complaining about how long it's been for updates for [fill in the blank].

Do you know what happens if you further want to process the sound output from Synth1.. with some heavy compression for exemple or saturation/distortion?
I am listening with my ears. The link I've just posted is in help for those who doesn't know what to listen for at low level...

Look let's just not spam this topic with contradictory nonsense. Please!

A free tip:
Change your project to 88200, or even 176400 and you will discover Synth1s real sound.

Render the track and downsample with some good algo.

It is really a huge difference at higher sample rates.
