If we're cross platform I guess that means you're not allowed to use Logic..?

seriously, though, if it meant i had to use reaper to conform, it wouldn't make the slightest difference to me (and i really don't KNOW reaper)...using logic to me is about familiarity, effects etc (and of course the superior quality of it's audio engine)..seeing as daw effects and the editing of audio are against rules, it's no thing

I guess this is the wrong thread to debate that assertion...ebow wrote:the superior quality of it's audio engine

Doc Jon shared some drum patches, including a very good drum kick to start from (I've had to adjust the cutoff, as it was completely messed up, due to some beta version issues, I suppose):benaben wrote:
All sounds designed by myself, including the kick (which I find awful...)
I found myself have a very hard time to make a good one, so I just made a bad one...
Interested if someone have good kick patches to share!

IMHO, limiting the plugs (and especially the DAWs!) to cross-platform actually runs counter to the spirit of OSC by forcing people to learn new tools rather than focus on the track and synth.
I'd even argue for allowing DAW EQ, compression, and limiting - these are production devices, and while at their extreme they could be used to color sound, their free counterparts typically do more so. And these are available to all in general even if not specifically - i.e. it does not put me at an advantage to use Live's EQ, since decent EQs are available to all.
It's like a contest to build a piece of furniture out of hand tools - we don't all need access to the same specific hammer, good hammers being available to all, and using what you are comfortable with allows you to focus on the task at hand rather than fighting an uncomfortable tool.
Just putting the idea out there.

i agree...a daw eq, compressor, 'vanilla' delay (sans modulation) and limiter are all 'fair game' in my eyesJoeCat wrote:IMHO, limiting the plugs (and especially the DAWs!) to cross-platform actually runs counter to the spirit of OSC by forcing people to learn new tools rather than focus on the track and synth.

although if there are only a couple of options in a cross-platform pool, they'd hardly take an age to get used to
i do prefer the daw idea though

That's true actually - it's not so much getting used to them as it is constantly fighting their nature during production. Limiters and compressors especially being somewhat limited on the Mac.ebow wrote:although if there are only a couple of options in a cross-platform pool, they'd hardly take an age to get used to

which is a great argument for levelling the field, and not letaving just us mac users with the constant fighting; payback for choosing a proper computer i s'poseJoeCat wrote:it's not so much getting used to them as it is constantly fighting their nature during production. in this way, the daw idea works...we could even work out which effects are ok for each daw
to be clear, the only thing i've been fighting during this is the urge to do everything else but
i can't tell how this mix will come out, using these crap earbuds, so the subtleties and nuances of each effect are kinda lost on me
glad i've persevered, as i'm pretty happy with it

Very good points that should have been included in the recent rules poll, i just plain forgot them as they've both been raised before. But let's do a vote in January about it and run what the majority rules for the coming month.
About the illegal use of host plugins used this time, i just checked the entries again and see indeed there's been host eq used, missed it. So can you change the host EQ for a 3rd party one and upload again please Marks-a-whybikky.
And welcome here Benaben, cheers for the submission.

Here's our entry for OSC35: DIVA!
The track is called "Lady From Jupiter"
We've started with making some nice sounds. Then we focused on drum and percussion sounds. Added some strings, leadsounds and fx and started with arranging and mixing.
We've put it away for some days and composed, mixed and arranged again.
Then mastered it with jsCompShaper, 10EQ, Loudmax, W1. That's it.
Host: Cubase 5.5.3
VSTi: uhe Diva beta rev 360 (21 instances)
VST:
Voxengo MarvelEQ
Bootsy's BootEQmkII
Vladg/Sound Molot VST Compressor
SlimSlowSlider C3 Multiband Compressor
SlimSlowSlider Sidechain Compressor
Thomas Um Loudmax
George Yohng W1 Limiter
Phoeninx in Flight 10EQ
JsAudio jsCompShaper
DamageAudio RoughRider
Cheers,
Solidtrax

Cheers. Can't see it in the player on the site yet, but there's sometimes a delay after uploading to it being visible there.

Hi.. I wanted join OSC this time. It was really good subject. But, I am failed make a song. I made drum part, and 303 style bass line, and need some more SFX free set and etc... I don't have enough time. and Diva already trouble at my host from yesterday.
Anyway, Thanks to OSC. Because I thought WHY I didn't make preset untile now. So I dicided make presets at my synths.. ofcouse I got some my Drum presets. But, I didn't make various Pad, SFX etc.. I just used defult presets. Now, I feel I have to got my sound set(at defult preset or not.) before make music.
