And the million dollar question is... Can Alchemy 2 (for Logic) do 'Sound Lock'... If not, There is no need for me to be angry... For it was this feature I was looking for in Alchemy 2...

Guess I will have to save my pennies and get Omni 2.... (if Apple don't buy them out before I have $500. saved) ......

I wonder if there will be any other additions to Logic in the future from CamelApple? But for the moment - this helps me out a lot until i can afford to get K10 or Omnisphere2.

I wonder if Dre has put any input into what Logic should be doing since he started working with them? Or am i day dreaming :D

I thought Ableton Live had that kind of feature sorted for a long time ?

Ok so lots of people are angry, they hate Apple, hope they’ll burn in hell, etc etc. BUT…

How does this new Alchemy SOUND?!? Happy with the improved resynthesis engines? The new additive effects? The new spectral resynthesis working in true stereo? The new features? Something to share outside your anger? :P

Thanks man. That's what I wanted to see. Cheers

To be honest, I'm not sure why all the hate (well, other than people like some internet fauxtrage over the cause of the day) - the new Alchemy actually doesn't have that much new in terms of features over 1.55 that's going to make existing Alchemy owners envious, and your existing Alchemy's will work just fine for some years yet I'm sure. I could maybe understand a bit more if the new version was massively improved, loads of new features, had massively better sound engines and so on, but that's not really the case - it's a bit better, but not much really.

Whether it will improve in the future, we don't know. My guess is, like much of the other Logic synths, there will be minor updates and fixes in newer Logic versions, but whether the instrument itself will grow in a way it might have done when it was still Camel's flagship is debateable - it probably is as it will be now, though we'll have to see.

As for content - it looks like some, but not all of the patches from the various Alchemy expansions is included - I've found the same patches from Guitar Mutations, DreamVoices, Himalaya Vintage, Steamworx and others, but certainly not all of the patches in those are included (at least, maybe some have been renamed).

My guess is the cream of the expansion content was included, but not all of it.

Yesterday, Apple adds Alchemy to Logic (free upgrade).

How does our Swedish friends Propellerhead match that today, just got newsletter from them, get new Zero Hybrid Synthesizer, pay €119

Score update:

Logic 1 - Reason 0

Post

The question being what has Propellerhead to do with Apple. :P Reason doesn't even have VST, so they don't have to fear concurring products, because their plugin interface is unique and excluse to their host. So it wouldn't even make sense to purchase a plugin company doing RE's. Unless they want to improve their in-the-box stuff. And btw, Propellerhead have continuously added stuff to Reason. There's so much new stuff compared to version 1 of Reason that it isn't even funny anymore. Just read the respective changelogs, and you'll see that they added loads of stuff to their host over the years, for discounted upgrade costs. Logic never had an upgrade discount afaik. The comparison is really wrong.

Not really, if I was a newbie looking for a DAW on OSX now, there is no doubt what I would think was the best option for me, both feature and price wise.

But Reason and Logic have a completely different approach. Reason is an in-the-box solution, and a complete virtual studio. Logic you will in 99% of the cases extend with plugins. In Reason you can do that too, but there's no necessity for it. And as i wrote, Reason has an exclusive plugin format, while most of the stuff available as AU is also available as VST. Camel Audio served both the Windows and the Mac market, so Apple bought them to offer more in Logic, and to cut off Windows people from a great plugin. It's really not comparable IMO.

Also little bit dissapointed to see they haven't upgraded the browser - you can still only rate the currently selected preset, and you can't rate by keyboard, meaning rating is as painful as ever - even more so as no old ratings are carried over, so if (like me) you've rated your entire library (which would have taken a while), you have to do it all over again, which isn't good news.

I tried copying the old ratings file over but it gets nuked and rescanned when Alchemy 2 is launched.

I'm gonna have to develop something to automatically get my old ratings over to the new Alchemy, as it's too painful to to it manually all over again (especially as rating is such a pain).

Thats not fair for the owners of the original "Alchemy". Because they get nothing and Mac-OS-owners without the original "alchemy" license get it for free. Not fair from apple. But it isn`t a surprise. F------ commercial avarice! They should give this synth a new name at least. Or bring a vst version with special offers for the "real" alchemy owners :hihi:
But for all you apples: i`m happy with you!
