Demoed it last night - actually, the presence surprised me indeed - I almost could "see" the sound. Very nice.simon.a.billington wrote:Absolutely. I have Logic, but the oscillators in Element have alot of presence, more than any other synth I've heard. Right off the bat they are thick and lush, no tricks needed.
...
So yes these plugins do present better tonal qualities and better sound shaping options.
It stood well against Diva, even if there is a difference in quality it's marginal and not like $33 vs $179.
I'm thinking I'll buy Dive someday nethertheless but can't justify the spending yet.
Coding probably isn't most optimal - I got my CPU choking under heavy unison and polyphony. But I'll try to cope with it. UI is a blessing.
As for Metafilter - cool little thing, I consider it a bonus. Still got to figure out how and where to use it.
So I pulled the trigger and hell with WUP. I own NX anyway so I'm not a Waves Virgin

Element 2 is still from my top favourite synths (bought it about 6 months ago)
It didn't stop me from buying other analogish synths because it doesn't cover everything for me. I really like its 'funky light hearted' character! But, I will pick up Diva for more 'serious' jobs especially for analog pads
The two complement each other perfectly
It is really a no brainer deal! (even without the filter!).

how hell do you turn the FX off on this thing ?, that is surely what is eating CPU.

I don't think so because the FX are basically the same in version one. It's the HD always being on imo.
Also, there is a little 1 and 2 to switch between the two versions (which I didn't know
) if you have both.
The ? is opens the manual. Here is what it says about the difference between the two.

5.2 Element 1 vs. Element 2
Element 2 uses a vastly improved synthesis engine, which can result in highly audible differences between the two modes.
There are also functional differences between Element 1 and Element 2 modes:
1. Element 1 has a single Unison mode, rather than the more sophisticated selectable 2- or 4-voice Unison of Element 2.
2. Unlike the 4 LFOs in Element 2, Element 1’s LFOs are arranged in two pairs. LFO 1 and 2 are free-running, whereas LFO 3 and 4 are synchronized both to MIDI clock and to Note On commands.
3. Element 1 does not feature a dedicated pitch-bend range control.
4. Element 1 has only a single ‘Crusher’ effect mode.
5. Element 1 features an HD switch that improves the overall sound of the instrument at the expense of increased CPU usage. Element 2 is always HD. 6. Element 1 has neither the ARP/SEQ ‘Hold’ nor the ‘Retrigger’ functionality of Element 2.

Man, that is the dumbest bit of coding i have ever seen, turning fx off is a fundamental thing.

Yes, but the CPU does not drop so that's a wet/ dry mix not bypass / off

I don't think it is the FX mainly. It is the unison and/or the polyphony (at least this is what I see in my system).

+1. The FX is quite light.EnGee wrote:I don't think it is the FX mainly. It is the unison and/or the polyphony (at least this is what I see in my system).

I don't know really.topaz wrote:How can a reverb not use CPU cycles, unless it's very poor ?
You haven't tried the demo before buying it?
Anyway, maybe it is better to wait the support's answer.

Ofcourse it uses CPU cycles, but i really think it is quite lightweight. The OSC's are the heavy part of this vst.topaz wrote:How can a reverb not use CPU cycles, unless it's very poor ?

It says on the tin WHY it's heavier.
However, it's a still a good question for waves because I'd use a global FX off button honestly. One thing I like to do is record the presets in loops at different tempo and then be able to put them in reason and mangle them (which is easier than doing it in tracktion frankly)
But I always have to remember to turn the "mix" down to zero. So if there was a way to kill the fx, and it somehow did save some cycles, I certainly wouldn't be opposed to it.

Sure, i agree on that on/off button. But i don't think it will matter too much. However, it will save a bit. And on the less fast systems it can save a couple percentages, i am sure.incubus wrote:It says on the tin WHY it's heavier.
