Just saw this press release...

http://www.emusician.com/gear/1332/wave ... ynth/54829

Don't know what to think of it yet... I like the warm sound of Element, but it simply has some (major) limitations in comparison to other synths... And apart from a new (not nice) color scheme and some improvements under the hood, version 2 doesn't seem to bring anything significantly new or better to the table - or am I overlooking something?

Post

Nope, you are right with that assumption - mostly just changes under the hood which should make the sound better, plus very few added features.

So nothing groundbreaking that would make it worth to call it a V2.0 in my opinion - I'd rather call it V1.1

Post

"Element 2.0 will also run side by side with the original Element synth, so users will be able to flip back and forth between the two at the touch of a button. This feature will mean that all presets from Element will also work in Element 2.0. "

That looks very interesting to me...wished more developers would do stuff like that.

The LFO Free-running switches seem to be new.
And judging from the screenshot, there seem to be tiny LED's indicating when knobs are set to min or max.
I like the new light skin, for instance the new wave displays and the knobs, readability is better.
Seems they considered customer feedback, the unison mode for instance has been criticized a lot, and they changed it. But I still don't see a spread knob.
The ugly noise with certain sounds such as pads is also gone according to that page linked.

Post

*Updated envelope behavior*...That's one thing that bugged me with Element 1. Curious to try it out. I'm fine with Waves keeping Element 'basic'.

Looks nice :) let's see how good it is when the demo will be available.
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Post

That's pretty sweet that you can switch between 1 and 2 in the top left corner.

I am sure it will not be a free update. My update plan just expired recently, I did not know that there is update plan I have to pay for $50 a year to have updates for my synths, so I never downloaded any updates, and now it expired and I can not even get updates that were released when I did have a plan. Assuming that there were updates. Not understanding what is $50 for.

You might just pay for Element to be in WUP, at any time.
That's what I think.

Any product bought separately, plugin, synth or bundle - can be activated with one fee - at any time. You did not loose anything expiring the wup.

Element 1 is an excellent synth with really good foundation of presets. But trying to work out new presets is just no fun with mouse, and even trying map some controls to external midi controller does not do it for me. Quite a few good bunch of routing options for modulation though.

For me it's hardware synths all the way that encourage being creative.
But it also depends which hardware, I think, having knobs and buttons for the most important stuff and enough routing options for modulation.

+1

There will probably be an upgrade offer to users of v1

My thinking is that v2 is released so shortly after v1 to draw more users back into Waves care plan.

Post

I think that WAVES really care about their customers and will provide V2 FREE OF CHARGE, with an apology for not getting it right with V1.

You don't have to pay WUP to update, you plugins. Only when jumping major versions, like going from version 9 to 10 if ever that happens.

But that brings me to another point, maybe v10 is upon us. Could Element 2 also be a v10 product?? If so the WUP will definitely be required.

I have other Waves plugins too, so I'd be up for the maximum whenever that happens. It gets capped around $300 or so I believe. Still that works out to be less than $100 a year, which works out MUCH cheaper than all the subscription services... Under $10/mth.

So can't really complain there.

Sure Element isn't the most flexible of synths, but look at what it does with just 2 oscillators and a sub. That thing sounds more rich then most synths with x2 or x4 the amount of oscillators, and it does it without the need for elaborate effects on the output stage. Same with Codex.

Yep, I'm a big fan of these synths, but I still use others because they offer things Element dont. Being a Logic user I'm currently enjoying Alchemy, that's great as well, really flexible. It just doesn't sound as rich as Element however.

Post

I'm glad Waves are moving forward with Element. I had wondered if they were ever going to update it. It's a good synth, all be it a limited one. However, In fairness it doesn't pretend to be anything else...

More of a .5 update. Still... Looking forward to it.
I will take the Lord's name in vain, whenever I want. Hail Satan! And his little goblins too.

When is it gonna ship?
