I was asked for patches, so here...
Patches
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bx_Fkz ... sp=sharing
Live 9.5 Project File
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bx_Fkz ... sp=sharing
The drum sounds (kik, snr,HH,clap, etc) are single-out patches at 000. MultiOutInstance1 and MultiOutInstance2 contain the rest. There are also a number of other individual patches that just use 000. I did those before I realized I had to use multi out instances. It would have been nice to import a single patch into a multi-out instance. Maybe you could, I didn't spend too much time on that.
There were enough head-scratchers on this thing to tackle. Still have no idea about a couple things.
Hope that made sense.

(Edit 19 12 - I used the pan on the instruments to make a little wider stereo mix and toned down
velocities on some notes.)
It uses 2 instances of BR808 (one is using first steps Bank by Tinga and the other Damncoldwinter bank that comes with it. The 2 instances are played with 10 different midi outs.
The midi channels are as follows:
Midi channel 1
trash strings (br808 #2)
Midi channel 2
bass drum (br808 #1)
midi channel 3
slow strings (br808 #2)
midi channel 4
snare (br808 #1)
midi channel 5
closed hi hats (br808 #1)
midi channel 6
ep worn (br808 #2)
midi channel 7
ring low bass (br808 #2)
midi channel 8
clap (br808 #2)
midi channel 9
noisine (br808 #2)
All drums go to channel 3 with no fx
all instruments go to channel 1 with effector working as reverb
The FLP file is at: (23 Aluode Raining in Miami.zip)

One of the most infuriating synths I ever had to work this. Had to make sure that the sound I programmed was right the first time because once I closed that instance of BR808 to work on the next track, if I tried to go back into it, my DAW blew up with multiple AUX Host Errors. So essentially I had to do this as one takes for everything as far as sound design.
Adding FX was also fun as that tended to crash the system as well.
Never again, but I was damned if I was going to let this abomination defeat me.
So below you will find my very minimalist track with all of 5 instances of BR808.
Track Details
Cubase 7.0.7
5 Instances of BR808
FX Used
Cubase Stereo Delay
Cubase Compressor
Cubase Reverence
Cubase Studio EQ
Ferric TDS
Cubase Limiter
Cubase Mono Delay
Ferric TDS and Limiter6 used on output buss

You all will be relieved to save 3-4 minutes for other fruitful work...

Yeah, this synth was one real unstable bitch. If I never have to open it up again, it will be too soon. In fact, I should probably remove it from my system before it starts spawning little aliens.Dee.P.Tree wrote:I am not sure I'll able to make this month... Very difficult to handle this synth.

As it goes, I often want to participate in the OSC but rarely have the time to. This December, as I have some decent holidays for Chistmas is a unique opportunity.
I am divided about the synth choice, though.
Does have a lot of potential, AM, FM, multi-osc and plucked string all in one, up to eight oscillators and a considerable selection of filter types and many filter slots.
On the other hand, no manual and very, very unstable. Also quite CPU hungry.
I have an old laptop. Had to start freezing tracks. BAsically working on one track at a time, all others frozen.
5 instances of the synth, and frozen tracks, then I started getting "out of memory" crashes on Ableton Live. Re-starting seems to have solved the problem, but I am resisting adding more instances of the synth. So might be a relatively simple piece I end up with.
Lets see if I can complete the piece without any more technical issues.

cheers! Though if you heard it in isolation, you would hear that it is far from amazingChris-S wrote:@zendorf, wow, the voice patch is amazing.
And some warning for anyone that wants to use the speech function...make sure you freeze your track! Otherwise if you are using separate words (use the ! symbol to separate them), the vst will always start playback from where you last left off. For instance if you have 4 words like I used, if you stop your track on the third word, it will always start playback on the 4th word, regardless of where you restart from...very frustrating! You also really need to play around with how many doubles of vowels you use...for instance the difference bewteen "ee" and "eeee" can be huge rhythmically.
A couple of people asked me to upload my patches. I only used 12 different ones in the track and they are all in a zip file with separate fxp patches...I don't advise using fxb with this synth, as it was killing Reaper for me! None of these patches use the inbuilt reverb/delay as I used the native Reaper FX for that.

Reaper DAW
4 * Bero vst BR808
18 sounds
https://soundcloud.com/eauson/eauson-br808-bero-kvr-82
Reacomp*5
Reaverb
Stardust
George Young W1 limiter
Track put together with mouse input only, no keyboard available
Made on a borrowed dual core laptop, creative sound blaster soundcard and a overly large set of speakers
Have to say Bero BR808 is a monster, capable of some great sounds, shame I didn't have a better chance to play.
Good luck to all in the challenge

Nice to see some action around here!
Hope y'all have had a nice holiday!
Had an OSC-dream the other night. Dreamt I had made a much more ambitious track with BR808, with voices and everything. It was pretty impressive
So imagine that track instead of the one I actually made instead!
Good work, everyone, so far and good luck to all who are working until the new year to get done!

OT I know, but ...
R.I.P. Lemmy ... another ace has rejoined the pack.
Saw him live in the early days with Hawkwind at an open air concert in York! Oh those sweeping filters all those years ago with the VCS 3 ... still with us today.

I must say working with this synth does require a type of patience I don't always have. But I did, in this occasion.
https://soundcloud.com/alienxxx/alienxxx-uncertainty
Uses 5 instances of the synth, that is all I could load up into Ableton Live 8. If I tried to add another instance, it would tell me the plugin was not compatible with Live. Even with other tracks frozen, etc.
I concentrated on exploring the Additive, Subtractive, AM and FM modes. Tried out the multi-osc and the Plucked String modes also, but did not use them in the track.
The text-to-voice capability is very interesting. Might actually use that as an FX in my tracks in the future, but did not really fit into what I was doing here, so not used either.
Since I experienced many crashes I have also limited the use of the synth's built in effects (since these often seemed to cause problems).
The synth effect I used the most was reverb. It actually works well (most of the time) and sounds interesting but eats a lot of CPU.
On some occasions used delay.
Used a lot of the filters, most of the time in combinations. I think they sound pretty good.
Sometimes also used the distortion effects. These are not as good as the filters and it is hit-and-miss which ones will crash Ableton Live 8...
I have made use of some of Live's effects, although I tried to keep them pretty sparse.
- Live Reverb was used on a send channel. In some cases the synth reverb was used instead or in addition. The choice of when to use Live's reverb was a combination of what sounded better and saving CPU. The Reverb's modulation capabilites were turned off.
- Live Auto-Filter was used in one point on the track. - Would have done it with the synth's own filters only the synth's parameter's cannot be automated in Live...
- For one effect on the track I use Live's gate, delay, bitcrusher and 3-band EQ.
- There is one send channel with Live's delay effect.
- Live's Limiter on the Master Channel - prevented my eardrums from ending up in my hypothalamus every time that BR808 produced a much louder and much nastier sound than expected... - hint DO NOT USE OSC FEEDBACK ON PLUCKED MODE!

My entry...
https://soundcloud.com/zarf/zarf-robot-is-sorry
4 instances of BR808 multichannel - each with about 6 instruments on different channels. A bit awkward to work this way, but as others have noted, Ableton would crash with too many instances of the plugin.
Ableton Live EQs, Compressors, Delay and Reverb.
Ferric TDS.
Good luck to all. That was one crazy synth to work with!
All the great feedback and helpful comments last month inspired me to try again - much appreciated everyone.
