As far as i know they don't do softsynths anymore because of pirates.

Yeah, i think that was their statement right after the V-Station was released. Shame, but... they always could consider going iLok, or some other rather bullet proof copy protection.

By that logic, all shops should close because there are shoplifters.
Anyone who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.

True. :tu:

I tend to believe that it was rather the shock of being pirated to shortly after release which left a permanent impression on them... which i can understand.

Anyway, truth is, i don't really know how much money would be in for them with a new soft synth. I would figure, not that much... some hardware seems to be selling like hot cakes on the other hand. Especially when it's analog, monophonic, and "classic". ;)

Any MAC user on here can point me towards the correct folder to find the V-Station sound-folder...please

Using multiple V-station instances now on a new dark electro track.

It's really one of a kind I probably wouldn't be able to pull off these types of dark VA sounds so easily in software elsewhere (unless someone shows me how).

The sounds are amazing if you don't compare it to another synth. The filter is not meant to scream as such but as a general modifyer for the oscs. Oscss using PWM, LFO's and sync combinations some small changes on settings can drastically change the overall tone while maintaining sweet spots everywhere.

I recently took the time to learn it inside out as I was having a hard time to fit it my tracks previsouly but found out it's signature sound needs to co-exist with either more V-station, FM and/or rompler sounds.

Everything is almost perfectly laid out for rapid use and the mouse controls increments perfectly the way I want it to. Just don't expect a screaming filter sweep (which I don't really care for anyways).

It really too bad that Novation is out of the software business I would really like to see a new synth eventually.

The Peak and Summit have reviewed rather well but there doesn't seem to be much interest here. My band loves the Ultranova - it's not awesome sounding in any one area but it gets the job done in so many it's like a 37-key workstation. Great to gig with (except for a power switch that makes more sense on cheap RadioShack gadget from 1992 ;) )

Pig's arse! Ultranova's synth strings are just about the best I've ever heard from any soft or hardware synth. They are full of movement and incredibly lush sounding. I absolutely love 'em. Interestingly, V-Station also does really nice strings.

What's wrong with the power switch? I've had mine for 9 years now and it's actually one of my favourites. Some of the push-button power switches can go a bit wonky but Ultranova's 3 position slide switch is as good today as the day I bought it.

Ultranova has lasted longer in my hands than any synth I have ever owned, and I reckon I've owned 40 or more over the last 38 years. As much as I love my Analog Strings, if I had to get rid of one of them, that's the one that would go.

That's not logical at all. It comes down to individual cases. I am sure there are some shops who do go out of business because of shoplifters, the rest just put their prices up so that honest customers bear the cost. IF your whole business is software, then piracy is something you have to live with but if you are primarily a manufacturer of physical goods, piracy might well seem to make software seem not worth the effort. I know that having our album available on pirate sites the same day its released really pisses me off and if walking away from it was an option, I'd seriously consider it.

Oh, and yes, we still use V-Station fairly regularly. It sounds bloody brilliant!

The string sounds are quite awesome - true (I get a solid Mellotron emulation out of it, and all the mods mean lots of movement). My meaning is that (IMHO) it doesn't particularly excel at one thing in terms of character. There's nothing that screams "Ultranova". On the other hand, I still can't get another synth to do a wurli like that, and don't intent to let it go anytime soon.

The switch will probably last forever (I know - I was building sh*t with those switches in the 80s - was a hardware engineer), but it's a pain to use. You have to feel for it and it's three-position with off in the center.

(Also Bones - if you could record yourself saying “Pigs Arse!” and out that in your signature, that’d be awesome!) 🤪

That's the beauty of it, left for external power, right for USB power. Same directions as my Skulpt.

"Pig's arse" is associated with a high profile Australian businessman, John Elliott, and no-one says it better than he does.

I still have it and use it mainly as part of a layer for a lead, as I do like how it blends with other synths.

I bought it on sale this year after reading good things about it here on KVRaudio.
I only did a quick test so far. I loved the way it sounded with arpeggio. The arpeggiated sound felt so "natural"?
