What synths are in equal or better footing than VPS Avenger?

Avenger attracts the edgy kids, their marketing in cringey and overall it gives me Jordan Peterson vibes.

It's interesting how the marketing and presets can shape our perception of a brand/synth when they're really just... synths that can do whatever you want with them. There's no reason you couldn't make a 1988 Detroit techno track with Avenger but the overall look and the presets are so heavily tilted toward 2023 festival EDM it gets harder to see it as the tool for that.

There is absolutely nothing about a '909 and vintage analog synths' (though there were plenty of digital synths in use then too) sound that couldn't be replicated (to the point that it's indistinguishable to a listener) in any of the various Uber Synths or Omnisphere.

Designing a techno drum kit would be the hardest part but you've got all the pieces you need in one of them. Or they load samples...

I was refering to the initial post about Avenger. Yes Omnisphere is way more capable to reproduce an analog vibe. By defaut the analog slope is already setup to give us drift, divergence.

Avenger osc and vcf, by default sound very harsh/digital.

That's being said. Softube Model 72, 80, 82, 84 will give you the raw analog vibe in a second. For drums, UVI BeatBox Anthology 2 or Roland Cloud.

My thoughts. I believe it's counter productive to spend and waste our time on 80 sound with an uber synth. There many synth ready for that.

Considering it doesn’t support polyphonic aftertouch or MPE, I’d say any synth is better because without those functions, it’s worthless to me. Shame, because it seems cool.

Superficially, on very basic synth sounds, you’ll probably be able to get in the neighborhood, at least if there’s some provisions to offset a lot of parameter per voice. If you can’t offset parameters per voice, then you will never capture the character of a vintage synth, no matter how well your filter or oscillators mimic the tone.
