If a synth sounds good then it sounds good no matter the release date.
Albino didn't die because it was a bad sounding synth, it died because of the legal kerfuffle between Rob Papen and Linplug.
I've already used Vanguard 2 in a few projects because it still sounds good and has it's own unique character. Is it the best sounding synth I own? No, but it has found its place. I'm guessing the same will be true for Albino Legend.
There seems to be a snobbery at KVR where it's considered fine to resurrect old hardware but resurrecting an "old" VSTi is considered pointless. But then there has been an general hardware snobbery since the day KVR was born so I guess it's to be expected.
As for the Motorola thingy:

So are the ROMS copyright infringement or not regardless of the download source? For Example has Access given their blessing to use the Virus C ROM data and so on?numerouno wrote: Tue Jul 06, 2021 6:15 pm Please note that the download includes only the DSP Emulator as we cannot and will not provide any ROMs due to copyright reasons.

Jeez some devs would kill for this level of free publicity - and for a re-release.

That just goes to show the affection some people have for Albino.
When (if) Zebra 3 is ever released I'm guessing the internet will explode that day after having more than a decade of pent up lust.

That is a fair summary, like sharpening metal on a spinning stone grinder. Not every sound from a synth that is great requires deep filtering. A good filter is important but personally the high pedestal which filters have been placed is somewhat over played.chk071 wrote: Sun Oct 08, 2023 11:54 am I always hoped for a Z3TA 3, with improved synth engine. But, I guess this will never happen.
z3ta+ and Z3TA 2 are fine, but, I use other synths for their superior sound. Never really liked the sound of the filters in z3ta+ either. The resonance can be very harsh, and ear piercing on higher levels.
It's one of those older digital filters, where the resonance simply "explodes" at some point.
It very much depends on the sound being made or played so many don't depend much on a filter, even less so with high resonance.

True. And, not many use high resonance levels. I love sounds which do though, so, pretty much one of my first test when testing a new synth will be how the filter behaves at high resonance levels.Synthman2000 wrote: Sun Oct 08, 2023 3:58 pmThat is a fair summary, like sharpening metal on a spinning stone grinder. At KVR every synth is reduced to its filters even though they're just one element in the whole of synthesis. Subtractive synthesis is just one form of synthesis but the myopic view here is that's it's the only form of synthesis.
Not every patch even needs a filter. I've done so many patches that don't use a filter than I've long since lost count.
I find it sad that if a filter doesn't sound like someone stepping on a cat's tail then it's considered "bad" but I guess that's the local crowd for you. Everyone is trying to be the next Skrillex.

Oscillators are the sponge, the filter the icing. So much texture comes from oscillators
especially when you move away from classic 1-3 oscillator basic waveform analogue subtractive.

I'd go the other way with filters > oscillators for character, but the oscillators do need some love to sound more analog with less aliasing.Synthman2000 wrote: Sun Oct 08, 2023 4:50 pm Oscillators are the sponge, the filter the icing. So much texture comes from oscillators

In regards to z3ta, it's my favorite of the first wave of VIs, better sounding than Vanguard or Albino. It oozes character and I have a zillion presets for it. On the minus side, there was no VST2, only VST3 with an AU wrapper for that version.
If any synth needs to come back as a CLAP-based ARM revenant, it's z3ta. Or, maybe it would be a lich?
I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better?

I never used it. Besides, the original Vanguard reverb was nasty. I'm sure the original Albino reverb sucked, too. Blame the slow CPUs. You can only do so much with a handful of comb and allpass filters.

Albino is decent. Linplug had good effects. Rapture had a better reverb, but I just thought Cakewalk couldn't cut it as far as effects go.
