Are you serious?! I am so gonna buy it. I first got into synths in 2016, and the KORG DSN-12 (3DS software) and my iPad apps were my first exposure to them. I never got a chance to buy or try Albino, so I am so happy. I hope the Linplug stuff will come back too.

It’s Linplug’s best synth and I hope Papen’s “in-house programmers” don’t mess with it that much. A bigger gui will be nice.

For those of us who already own it, Albino 3 never disappeared. It’s been working great, and even works on Sonoma + Apple Silicon. A native version will be great though.

I saw the newsletter too and came here to see if there's any discussion. I loved Albino 3 back in the day but moved on after the kerfuffle between Rob Papen and Linplug.

I still have a Linplug serial number backed up and seem to remember having it registered in my Rob Papen account but I think I might have sold it on at some point over the years as it no longer shows in my account. Hard to remember the history of every plugin I've ever owned.

Would I pay $99 to get it back? I'd have to hear how it sounds again and see how the new GUI looks now as the old one was pretty small at higher resolutions. I assume it will load old presets and that will be a deciding factor. I'd probably pay the $49 in a heartbeat but I don't think I would qualify for the upgrade now.

You can hear Albino's DNA in some of Rob and Jon's current synths but I remember the 4 layers being one of the better features of Albino at the time.

So yea all in all this is great news to see one of the gems of the past resurrected. Will the upgraded version hold up to the competition nowadays? Only time spent with the demo will tell. At any rate I'll definitely be keeping an eye on the news going forward.

The newsletter also teased "Go-2 X" which will have an upgrade price of $25 which will almost certainly get purchased here as I do love me some Go 2.

Albino was kind of a special case, though, I don't think RP was involved with any of the other Linplug plugins - However, the fact they have reached an agreement to bring back Albino is definitely good news, and might at some point pave the way for RP to take over the other, more esoteric instruments by Linplug.

Judging by how many times they are brought up around here, they seem to be well loved even after all this time.

To be fair I think that's only Jon Ayres with Jecek Kusmierczyk helping on Mac programming.

They're responsible for all the great plugins in Explorer 8 so I trust them. Wouldn't make sense to resurrect a synth then break it's backwards compatibility or change it in any negative way.

I'm really looking forward to what JoMal does with the new version. He is one of my favorite sound designers and his presets are among my favorites in all the RP products.

If you managed to obtain the "Trains of Thought Collide" (Frank Genus) Albino presets they were also awesome. I don't know if they're available anywhere now but he might have set them free when he retired to go into practicing law. Again memory is a bit fuzzy or smoky from those days.

Hmmm good point. I wonder if there was an agreement or if Linplug's IP rights just expired or? The whole arrangement was kind of convoluted and I seem to remember things getting a bit testy at times.

But you make a great point. If RP can take up CronoX and the other old Linplug offerings that would be a win for everyone assuming Linplug is properly compensated and/or gives their blessings....

Yes - I remember them as some of the first products that I purchased - Love Alpha for Xtra phatt bass- and Delta!

Yes Delta was awesome as well and kind of the father of Albino. I'd also love to see an updated RMV although Rob has Punch 2 as a drum machine so don't know if he'd be motivated if allowed to take over the code.

They need to make sure it is backward-compatible with the older version and to ensure they don't change the relevant internal plugin IDs that allow for this, so that automatic migration from VST to VST3 can be a possibility. (i.e. automatically replacement/substituting the newer version for older instances of Albino 3 saved in existing projects).

If changing the name to 'Albino 3 Legend' somehow prevents that highly beneficial functionality, then that will be have been a pretty short-sighted mis-step by the developers.

Well like I said these guys have done a large number of plugins and Jon has been around the industry longer than his affiliation with Rob so I trust them to make the right decisions.

Could they still make a mistake? Sure, but I'd be surprised if they did.

Plugin name and plugin ID are two different things. This should be possible. But it doesn't hurt to shoot RP & crew an e-mail to make them aware of this.

I love me some Albino, but Spectral is the best Linplug synth. It's kinda irreplaceable...

I own Albino3 and I like it, but honestly I cannot understand the hype.
Apart from the filter, what is the special thing in Albino3 when we compare to other RP synths?

In these days i dont see what can be offered with Albino 3 except for nostalgia. Id say its in same category as Vanguard 2. It sounds good as vsts could get in the mid 2000's.

Albino 3 returns.....
