Hi all,

there is a free online course on music production by the Berklee College of Music over at coursera. I thought that it might be of interest to some OSCers:
https://www.coursera.org/course/musicproduction

I have taken a course on DSP there recently and found it quite interesting. I guess I will join this one next.
Passed 303 posts. Next stop: 808.

I took that course when it was offered last year, it's pretty informative. I definitely recommend it. :tu:

You can complete four courses in total on this subject, called the Modern Musician Capstone.
Next for me is Songwriting after which I'm planning to do the Capstone project to round things off. It is quite accessible stuff but useful.

I took the songwriting course. Pat Pattison is an amazing instructor. It focuses mostly on lyrics, which were my biggest problem, and after taking it, the song I wrote for my final exam, I entered into the Great American Song Contest and made it to the finals.

It definitely made a huge impact on my lyric writing.

I highly recommend it.

Can we have another "One Synth Challenge" for Commercial synths runs in parallel with one for a free synth? So, let's say OSC1 for a free synth and OSC2 is for a commercial synth for one month :)

I believe the additional Challenge is really great for knowing a specific commercial synth that we might have, synths like Diva, Massive ..etc? Most of us are using commercial DAWs after all, so it is not a pure free environment. It doesn't have to be restricted IMO.

I know not all can participate if the commercial synth doesn't have unrestricted demo for one month, but still it will bring the attention of those who are using it.

What the organizers think of this suggestion?
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

As long as it runs in parallel with and not in place of I don't see a problem with it. That way those of us who have the paid and free synth can choose which one they want to do or both if they think they have the time.

I have so many synths that I'll probably never get to use for this otherwise. Actually, the Synthmaster challenge from last month was a pleasant surprise. I wasn't expecting it.

The only problem that I can see with this is that it could be an administrative nightmare trying to run two of these each month. I see how much work BJ puts into it and I don't know if he'll want to double his work load, and quite honestly, I can't blame him if he's not exactly jumping for joy at running two contests each month.

Anyway, it's not up to me but I have no problem with it.

Hey,

what I would love to see is a one-liner included in the OSC voting tool to leave a private voting comment for the artist. For example there is a song I would vote 5, but I cannot since it sounds for me over compressed or maximized. If I wouldn't be the only one with this feeling, the artist could really benefit from such a information (that I don't like to post publicly) and check his/her mixing habits or monitor setup.

Oh, nice idea, for 5-3 points its optional to fill out, 2-1 it should be mandatory. I'm interested why some people rate low sometimes.

Like anonymous comment? I've been thinking about this kind of thing for some time. Strange that soundcloud doesn't have private comments or anonymous!? But it's obvious they steered away from community building back in 2011.

BTW, the fact you can't reply to comments outside soundcloud (aka having to go into the SC page) ruins a lot of the fun. Would be cool to integrate his

Can this be of interest to us OSC fans, condemned to use free plugs? ;)
