A perfectly slotted (graphite ?) nut often has an even bigger influence.
PRS had this perfect on their US models ever since the 80s, not sure about the SE models,
The slots should widen and gently slope down towards the headstock, leaving only a small, precise contact area where the string exits towards the fretboard.
Sorry for that description, one look would make it clear.
Locking tuners are a good idea, too, not least for convenience.

I guess it's a matter of taste, please forgive me but I think that is one very ugly guitar...but that's just me and remember I'm not a fan of chrome, I'm not a fan of looking '50s' and tbh the finish reminds me of what should be on a '65 chevy malibu and not a guitar...and of course I am completely :nutter:

Last night I watched Legends of Rock: Uli Jon Roth from 2001 (which I think this pic is really from and he did play that song) and then did some reading on his Sky guitar and am somewhat fascinated with it. It seems in 2010 Dean started producing them but I haven't checked the prices, I am not sure how I feel about Dean. One store I worked at was a Dean dealer and I bought an awesome playing fretless for short money, the thing is it played great but had EMG select pups in it and it sounded about 1/10th as well as it played.

However I imagine the Sky guitar would be a high end model and Dean use to do that fairly well (both Dean and B.C. Rich seemed to go from very expensive impressive guitars to utter crap cheap guitars overnight). It was interesting hearing the contrast between Shenker with his V and a JCM 900 and Roth with his Sky guitar and a pair of plexis. I am very interested in what hides beneath the pick-up cover on the Sky guitar, I'm quite sure the guitar is active due to the eq system in it and it sounded beautiful especially very high on the E string (though I'm not sure it was actually tuned toe E), the very high tones were more like pinch harmonics than the average plinkyness of a lot of guitars high on the register (which is also the reason I prefer to tune 24 fret guitars lower because I feel I gain more tone wise from the lower notes than the plinky high notes).

Roth/Shenker side by side was pretty cool (Jack bruce was also on a few songs and tbh I was more than extremely disapointed in his playing, out of time on many occasions) but Shenker made a lot of little goofs while Roth was simply flawless in his playing, even when playing UFO songs.

He did All Along the Watchtower without Bruce or UFO as well as some songs from The Sky Guitar Project (an album on my list) so at least now I know how the song sounds when played in tune...now if only I could hear it with Roth and someone who can sing :hihi:

edit: just found a price...3200usd :?

I've had the pleasure of talking with Uli on more than one occasion, he's one of the most humble and friendly humans I've ever met, and at the same time an extreme perfectionist ...
The Sky Guitar sounds great and probably is perfect for his classically inspired work, still, Uli with a trad Strat/Plexi Hendrix setup is something else.
He and Trower are the only current players I really enjoy listening to in that style, maybe Johnson too.

If it sounds as good as it looks ...
Talmans vary a lot, many were not even made of solid wood but particleboard afair.
Quite a risk without playing before purchase imho. :scared:

well poo, I want to put an evo in the neck of my 1420/1421 and the dumb things only come with black poles  My charvel has one in the neck and charvel custom ordered with the silver poles.

I'm not sure how all black will look (and the tone zone will of course have silver/chrome poles too)

I guess I could custom order it.........
