"You can think about the woman or the girl you knew the night before."
Why add "girl," Bob Seger? Why?

I think I know why you're uncomfortable with that, but if it makes you feel any better, "girl" does not always mean someone who is below the legal age of consent. It's fairly common to refer to a 19-year old as a "girl". I've heard the term applied fairly often to women in their early 20s, especially if it's someone older making the statement. And if you're a young rock star, no one would have a problem with you getting friendly with a 19 year old girl.Dirtgrain wrote: Mon Mar 16, 2026 9:29 pm "You can think about the woman or the girl you knew the night before."

I don't know why Bob phrased it that way. Let's hope, it was purely to make the line have enough syllables to fit with his rhyming scheme.
Also... I suppose, "girl" could have been a last-minute replacement for "man", because his record label might have been uncomfortable with that?

"Lucky that my breasts are small and humble so you don't confuse them with mountains"
Shakira - Whenever where ever.
Yeah ok.
Funnily i think the line "Visions of swastikas in my head and plans for everyone" works in Iggy Pops version with his snarly delivery but is just plain wrong in Bowies rendition of the same song.
