Has anyone here yet made use of the Sampletank 4 editor? Can it be used to edit/tweak factory patches?Lotuz2019 wrote: Mon Aug 16, 2021 2:18 pmYou know, I might just resample it and load it into SampleTron 2 instead.
SampleTank 4 on the way

I hope I'm wrong, but as far as I can tell from the video and the manual you can use the editor to create patches, but not edit. It only seems to export .st4i files, not import.

Ah, there was a video. So apparently, the SampleTank 4 Editor only imports samples.Lotuz2019 wrote: Mon Aug 16, 2021 2:55 pm I hope I'm wrong, but as far as I can tell from the video and the manual you can use the editor to create patches, but not edit. Fun fact: Back when I was using SampleTank 3 to import ST2 presets which I had purchased from esoundz.com/sonicreality.com, some of the presets failed to import. The importer crashed in the middle of the import process and left behind the temporary working folder it had created; inside the folder were all of the WAV samples that were packed in the SampleTank STW file! So if there was a way to pause (or crash) SampleTank 3/4's preset import process (in the middle of processing), you could possibly obtain access to the unpacked sample files of the preset.

Nope, up to velocity level 60 the F3 key sounds like the other keys. From 61 to 127 it clearly sounds different. As if there's only one velocity layer for 70 - 127 for this key while there are at least five for the other keys.Lotuz2019 wrote: Mon Aug 16, 2021 2:18 pm Does anyone here have the Wurly Model 120 SampleTank instrument btw? Why does the F3 key sound so different from the rest? Maybe only on full velocity as my MIDI keyboard was set to fixed velocity when I installed and quickly tested it. I'll test other velocities later.

Now I have three Wurli Model 120 tracks in SampleTron 2 (velocity 60, 79 and 100). It's a bit of work, but it sure sounds nice.Lotuz2019 wrote: Mon Aug 16, 2021 2:18 pm Does anyone here have the Wurly Model 120 SampleTank instrument btw?

You know, I might just resample it and load it into SampleTron 2 instead.

If it's anything like my real 120 the key probably sh*ts the bed at harder velocities. I have a few very wonky keys. Some don't have much sustain (rusty reeds), some just kind of make a "dunk" noise at higher velocities (the hammer likely not dropping off after initially striking the reed). Just consider it character. These things are like 70 years old and lack the refinements that went into later models. The action is awful, the pickups/amp hum very loudly, it's ugly and plays the same. The 120 sits unused in the basement. The 200 I have is a thing to be cherished and gets played regularly.Lotuz2019 wrote: Mon Aug 16, 2021 3:50 pmNope, up to velocity level 60 the F3 key sounds like the other keys. Note: when I sampled my 120, I did my best to get good strikes on each key but it's still very inconsistent. I did a slightly cleaned up alternate version that remapped the better keys in place of some of the really bad ones just as being requested here. Sounded better than the real thing. Way less noisy too (after some Rx)!

I get what you're saying and for a moment I wanted to accept it as just a bad key, but...Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Thu Aug 19, 2021 4:08 am If it's anything like my real 120 the key probably sh*ts the bed at harder velocities. And it doesn't sound like a bad key hit at full velocity to me, more like a mistake in the mapping. So I resampled Wurly Model 120 at three velocity levels (60, 79 and 100) and did the copy & transpose thing on this key and two more keys (G#1 and A#1). Sounds nice. I have reported the issue to IK, so hopefully they'll release an update. The Model that we sampled for Wurly Model 120 is a superbly maintained vintage specimen
Now I wouldn't mind if they'd also do a used Wurly like yours with all its flaws that add much character.
The 200 is a great EP, but there already are so many sample libraries of it out there. I'm pretty sure SampleTank 4 (regular and Max) contains samples of the 200 ("1974 Wurly Electric Piano"). That's why I think it's cool that IK chose the less well known 120 instead.

I've had a look at it. I want to get into it, but haven't really had the time. Same with Kontakt, but I will say it looks more usable than Kontakt, mostly because of its small scale size. Thats bound to change soon, though.tonedef71 wrote: Mon Aug 16, 2021 2:49 pmHas anyone here yet made use of the Sampletank 4 editor? The most immediate sampler I know of is Logic's, so I'm inclined to use that first. Mind you, you can't get into building yourself a nice UI for it if thats where you wanted to take it.

Anyone else having ST4 crash all the time? I got a few freebees from the new sale (Electric pianos etc) but I had forgotten why I stopped using ST4-- constant crashes when loading! Seems pretty random., works foie and then I go to load something else (always on load) and it gets to 100% then hangs. I have a modern i7 Windows PC with 16Gig RAM.
X32 Desk, i9 PC, S88MK3, S1, BWS, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6 Pro3, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone II, OP1-F, OPXY, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

I've been having crashes with quite few plugins over the last few months. I'm on a Mac though and Ive been talking with one of the developers involved who are looking into the issue, but seem to suspect it may have to do with instabilities between Logic and the PACE licensing system causing non PACE protected hardware to crash Logic periodically. Among those are SampleTank 4 and Amplitube.
Meanwhile SampleTron WILL NOT restore its settings within Logic at all. I haven't gotten around to contacting support however.
I'm going out on a limb and saying none of these are your problem however.

It's stable on my M1 Mini. I had issues with it in earlier iterations. The biggest issue I had was that it didn't play well with Logic's arp. So, tech went onto my computer remotely, discovered a bunch of links to sounds that went nowhere (I was also getting a lot of crashes because of this), and re-arranged the sound links, before discovering that the issue with Logic and the arp was a bug. In his words...."I'll pass this on to the developers." Translation: bug. The next iteration of Sampletank 4 has worked fine. I seem to remember being able to see the Sampletron 1, Samplemoog, Sonik Synth modules separately. Now they are higgledy-piggledy arranged in the Imported Sampletank 3 instruments. But everything is there and working as it should. I think I might actually use it again, but the full Sampletank 4 (I have SE), is, unfortunately, too much space for too little relevance. I have pianos and drums and much of the other stuff that S4 is loaded with, so I won't go there.
