Squids, you did not answer the availabilitt of a demo version. Is it because you don't have the answer yet, or maybe the answer is no?

Danke! :)

He has been hinting that we can "test it at our favorite retail store".

I know they are very protective of their "new baby" but "no demo" is a big mistake in my opinion.

My guess is that there will be no demo for now but maybe later.

times, they are a changin...:hihi:...many of us here had some of the original amps modeled...guess where we tried them out?...;)
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

Wow, all this over my less than stellar review? Thanks for the respect comments Fritz.

You all have to remember, NAMM is one of the biggest phony schmooze fests in existance. Everybody loves everything there until they proceed to the next booth and love their product best.

To my ears AT2 sounded thin and fizzy. The demo bands playing with it sounded extremely thin. Strangely enough with IK being a mostly sample based company, the electronic drums the bands were using were triggering some way less than stellar samples. I remember a drummer saying between songs "nice cymbals" and jokingly hitting the cymbal on the kit. I guess I'm just picky though.

Also (and not that it really matters) but there were 50+ people watching the GR-2 Dweezil demo I saw, as opposed to me and 2 other people plus a videographer watching the "nice cymbals" band (not sure who they were, some modern looking band) so take some of this hype with a grain of salt.

In the end AT-2 may be great for you and just what you are looking for. But my advice would be to demo it first and not make the "impulse buy" The product, in my opinion, doesn't live up to the hype.

Sorry Squids, I have to disagree with you. I still love my Sonik Synth though!

I am so looking forward to the release of this product. Then, I won't have to read anymore all the bla bla bla this thread is generating.

There will only be the product, alone, naked, without anybody to stand for it or to smash it down. It will wether sound great (and I hope so), or it will suck. But I am tired of waiting (and reading!)

What I don't get, is why do the mp3 demos sound so bad??? If the product is as half as good as Squids is pretending, then the demos should reflect that. No? In my opinion, only 2 (out of the 34) sound decent: the bluesy combo one and the hot head one. All the others are so so, and the heavy ones (heavy riff, stereo power chords and thick solo 1) are absolutely horrible. Again, to my ears.

So maybe AT2 will be good for clean, for vintage and for bluesy styles only? All we have now are disappointing demos, a statement from a guitarist (guitarjeff) who went to the NAMM and wasn't impressed at all, and one guy, Squids, a salesman (and a musician too), who says it is great.

:help:  :help:

On the other hand, Soundspectral are also going to release a similar product. So far, and to my ears, it sounds quite promising. Very different from AT2 (no booby girl, no hype, no big company, they are only four!) and most importantly good sounding demos. For my part, I don't care which one will sound better. I just hope at least one will sound great... so that we didn't loose our time by reading all these posts!

.. last night, my partner tobi and me sat there recording some guitars for sorry computer. we first looked for the right guitarsound in GR2, but tobi (who´s got no real clue about plugins) wasnt statisfied. then i opened up AT1 and he went "ah, yes. now it sounds good!" .. now, thats quite a "new" perspective .. :hihi:

with the Ampeg bass plugin released in 2008, and AT2 in autumn 2006 i still have some time to decide .. :P

Maybe Squid could make a little demo for us.
A short METAL guitar riff would be nice.
It would show how much the sound is thick and powerful.

I fully agree and what is bothering me is Squids saying it sounds great. :-o If these demos sound great according to Squids, then I guess I will hate AT2 which is sounding "so great".

I don't know. I think you may have to have a USB key to do a demo such as the Steinberg key or the IK key. But, I am not sure so that is not an official response. Just my guess.

Truth is though that there were far more people at the IK booth overall than at NI. One might think otherwise based on your post. Maybe that was when you happened to be there. Every time I looked (and I was there for the whole show) it was more like that. Not that it matters anyway!

Again, I heard it with my own ears as did many people and "thin and fizzy" would not excite musicians like Sheldon Reynolds, Larry Dunn, Nathan East, Omar Hakim, Greg Phillenganes and the swarm of musicians "shmoozing" around the IK booth. It would interest me either!

The cymbals, on the other hand, are another story. IK, btw is not largely sample-based. More IK-only developed products are actually DSP based. It is Sonic Reality that gives the impression it is more sample-based since we do most of the sampling these days for IK (apart from SampleTank's set itself and even there we've done a lot). But, I don't pretend that the drum sounds were stellar in the booth. I had actually intended to have those drum pads triggering Studiophonik which I think WOULD have been exceptional. However, I had to bail on the idea at the last minute because of logistics (there wasn't even supposed to be a drum kit at all which was squeezed by on approval at the last minute).

There were also more demos of AT2 solo than there were GR2. That was mentioned before as well.

Whatever. Gotta catch a plane. Bye!

YOU are reality? Fritz, please stop pointing your attacks at me. Talk about the plug-ins and what you know (which is obviously just NI stuff since you work(ed) for them).

No,

I'm not reality. But as Hink also pointed out I don't want to be prejudiced by you about AT2. I want to try it myself. Like Jeff did. Like you did. Simple, he?

All the best, FRitz

P.S. You know only Rolling Stones stuff, since you hung around with them backstage. You see? Very clever. That was a pretty lame and unsubstantial attack of you.
I am a guitar player for 26 years now and I worked for NI for 2 years and back then they didn't even think about guitar rig. Go figure ... :hihi:
I kind of got to this thread late in the game, but I noticed you said that you worked for NI for 2 years. What exactly did you do there? That would explain why you're not interested in Amp 2, wouldn't it?

Hi Eddie,

whassup? If you wanna know more than what you already quoted then search a little deeper in this thread. I see no need to defend myself in any way. :)

Best wishes, FRitz
In the end will be the word.

Boy this thread is like a nasty soap... You kind of one where youwatch the a couple of episodes out of interest and you kind of get dragged in... and it doesn't really matter when start watching it will still drag you in... Not that that has ever happened to me!

Post

Veron: I've heard lots of metal with weak and thin tone. ...And Justice For All, for example. ;)

For "thick" and "powerful" tone, certain flavours of crunch are where it's at!

Squids:

Please. I know you love AT2 but for me it is very important to know: Is it capable of produce the gorgeous Mark Knopfler clean sound (new records) with the appropiate guitar?
That single sound would convince me to buy AT2
