Just listened to the AT2 clips. Less than stellar, IMO. Nothing better or worse than GR2.
For sure nothing revolutionary. Some tones could certainly be achieved easier (read: better sounding) through my VAmp. But well, I'm only a guitar player, so what do I know...

There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

Not that I like dongles or this practice but this is pretty standard procedure for a lot of the digi plugs...no dongle, no demo.Squids wrote:I don't know. I think you may have to have a USB key to do a demo such as the Steinberg key or the IK key. But, I am not sure so that is not an official response. Just my guess.A3ntar wrote:Squids, you did not answer the availabilitt of a demo version. Is it because you don't have the answer yet, or maybe the answer is no?
Danke!
BUT if you look at some of what IK has done in terms of their products (ST2 Free, SS Free, AT LE...) I wouldn't rule out a dongle-less lite version at some point in the future.
Play what you feel and feel what you play.

I have heard that before, regarding the V-Amp, (although they say to get the Bass V-Amp (same as guitar with more modeling/cabs, etc), the word is the V-Amp has some great sounds. Never heard any clips though, just read about it.Sascha Franck wrote:Just listened to the AT2 clips. Less than stellar, IMO. Nothing better or worse than GR2.

FWIW, Guitarport KILLS GR2, I think GR is a farce, it sounds terrible. I have used a Marshall, Rectifier, AC30, Groove Tubes, (even biased my own amps), change 12ax7s, EL34's, 6L6's, etc) and I don't know why but the GuitarPort sounds better than the GR and I don't expect much from AMP2 either, AMP1 was/is very noisy, will bust it out and try it again. Nomad and GreenMachine are decent. Not sure about the spectralsonic project....sounds good, but seems like they might charge too much and it would really have to be worth it too. Plus no word on delivery but looks somewhat promising!
There are also a few others coming out, can't recall the names though.
peace

Oh and then there is the PSA 1.1, which I have heard two things...
a) Closests to amp ever all the way to
b) Sounds get old quick...
Go figure...
You would think these huge developers would at least add a 12ax7 and one POWER TUBE and most of the subtleness of the gaining would be solved, although air still places a factor....but with Impulse Response...it should be workable.
Have a great idea for another invention too. Wonder how I should approach someone on this, such as Tascam, Mackie, Motu, Appogee?!

I don't know but probably. He uses Fender gear right? If you have a nice Strat you can probably get close running it through the Twin emulation perhaps, a little modeling of the Dynacomp might help as well in there.alejandrozalaquett wrote:Squids:

That single sound would convince me to buy AT2
TKS
One of the things I may do when we come up for air at SR is have a little thing in the SR forum where you post a small clip from a tune and challenge me or other AT2 users to "get THAT sound". Wouldn't that be fun? We should do that with SS2 and Studiophonik as well (when it is out). I need to hire some more people so we can do more things like that. It is actually very hard for me to take time away to be on this forum... you wouldn't know it by the volume of my posts!
You know, it could go on forever where people say this is better than that and someone disagreeing... an endless cycle! AmpliTube 2, just looking at it on its own is full of really great things. I know them well so I can talk about them when/if anyone is interested. If I think it is great then of course I am going to be one to say it is soooooo sooooo great. I really think that it is! I feel very strongly that it will be an extremely popular piece, regardless of the back and forth debates in this thread.
Whether one product is right for you or another is a personal thing! It has been for years with guitar gear (amps, stomps etc.). It doesn't matter how much someone else likes it if you don't yourself for your music. I think that for most people it has enough to make it worth it overall to have in your set up... a "toolbox" of guitar gear so to speak. (That's why I am excited about it the most because I never know what a song may need, even at the mix stage as opposed to just the tracking). But, if you are looking for a very specific sound then that opens up your search to a LOT of things in my opinion. ANYTHING mentioned in this thread (or not) could be the piece that does the trick in that case! In fact, you might even have good results in hardware most likely (such as the Randall with the interchangeable cards or a specific vintage amp and fx pedal collection).
I guess it depends on where you are coming from and what you expect to get out of the hardware/software tools you buy. I know a lot of producers, engineers, songwriters etc and they love products like AmpliTube 2 because it can do a lot, sounds great, it's easier to use and you can do things FAST with flexibility to change it if you (or the director, exec producer/label etc. ask). Makes sense to me. I like to have those things as well! But, each person has a different criteria for what they are looking for. So, even though I've said "but, you gotta be nuts not to like it!", it does depend on where you're coming from and overall it is still subjective so... that means this thread could go on forever!!!!!! I don't know if I can stay interested for much longer though. Probably a thread where people really want to talk about AmpliTube 2 (and actually want to hear about why it is great) would be more interesting for me since that is what I gravitate toward. Listening to "Guitar Port is better than the Pod is better than GR is better than Amplitube is better than Guitar Port" is tiring!!!!

I don't see how you could "take it back" if that was your honest impression. It either was or it wasn't. I have no idea who you are or what your motives may be in slamming AT2 and IK's presentation at NAMM (which was probably a highlight for many show walkers in that HALL). It is situations like this where I wish I would have met you in person at the show and even been there when you were listening to AT2 so I could fully understand. But that's be idealistic. So, I accept that not everyone, for whatever their reason, is going to like it and that due to the anonymous nature of this forum the diversity of reasons is even greater than just the regular pool of potential customers.Guitarjeff wrote:Get me the John Sykes Blue Murder tone and I'll take back everything I said about AT-2 (and I'll buy it):D
Jeff
That said, I would love nothing more than to think you or anyone COULD be convinced it is the right thing for you so I would take your challenge to get that sound. Why not? I am more about the fun side of all this stuff anyway. I think that all of the tools mentioned in this thread can deliver something great for your music and I just happen to gravitate heavily toward this one. With this collection of amps and effects you can do a lot! So, we'll do that and see.
Okay, back on a plane. Bye!
