How did you determine that? Cubase, Live, Reaper, and their respective plug-ins are generally exceedingly efficient.Sascha Franck wrote:Of course, but at least regarding efficiency, Logic can't be beaten for the time being.

However, 7.5 was not the last version before 8.x........it was 7.2.3 which is all I was trying to sayttoz wrote:no, the logic sequencer program of the studio bundle is still very much called logic pro 8.getthere wrote:You may be right. I've had Cubase, Live and Logic running on my MBP and I can assure you than Cubase and Live run like dogs with lead boots on OSX compared to Logic, internal plugs and 3rd party alike.Uncle E wrote:How did you determine that? Cubase and Live on PC is a completely different matter.

I've been doing tests myself. For instance, I had the same (3rd party) plugins with the same settings running under both Logic/Win and Cubase (SX2 I think), playing back the same MIDI file, etc. Logic won hands down. At low latencies (256 and below) the differences were astounding, I'd say something at least around the 30% marks, most likely more. And even at higher buffer settings, Logic still won.Uncle E wrote: How did you determine that? Cubase, Live, Reaper, and their respective plug-ins are generally exceedingly efficient.
And as said, that was using 3rd party plugins. It's a bit tough to compare the internal ones coming with either host, but something like over 1000 sampler voices on a rather mediocre Macbook 2.4 has to be considered to be quite something, no?
Really, in terms of efficiency at a) low latency performance and b) use of internal plugins, Logic really can't be beaten (ok, take the EVB3 organ out of that, it's a true CPU hog and the least optimized Logic plugin for whatever reasons).

It really just makes apple look insecure and inferior to thinking people, when their entire advertising department is one giant smear campaign of Microsoft. Why can't they just advertise their own merits?

My perception was that Cubase on Windows was less than terrific when compared to the Mac - is that still true, or has version 5 changed things?
Does Cubase 5 have anything like Logic's Touch Tracks or Chord Memory features?
Does anyone think that Steinberg will be offering competitive crossgrades to Cubase 5 any time soon?
Thanks

Because then they'd have nothing to advertise? The Chase wrote:Another +1, we were discussing this yesterday in the class I am posting from right now.hibidy wrote:I don't like anyones corporate tactics, but apple is a#1 on that list......getthere wrote:You said it, not me. But seriously, it kinda is a smear campaign against Microsoft and I'm wondering how Microsoft puts up with it all this time. Very noble of them, I think.

re: #2 - just went on the Cubase forum and found that there is a MIDI plug called "Chorder". You click on a key on the onscreen keyboard which you'd like to have trigger a chord, which you also select from the onscreen keyboard. Sounds a bit clunky (not being able to define the attributes with your actual MIDI keyboard), but hey - I wish Sonar had it.ttoz wrote:1) absolutely not especially since SX3pbognar wrote:I've got some stupid questions:spaceman wrote:I've had Cubase, Live and Logic running on my MBP and I can assure you than Cubase and Live run like dogs with lead boots on OSX compared to Logic, internal plugs and 3rd party alike.Uncle E wrote:How did you determine that? 2) Chord Memory? You mean the retrospective recording?
3) I'd say not for 5 from what I have read
Touch Track like functionality would be being able to trigger different audio or MIDI segments with a MIDI note in real-time, giving you a little of the "Live" experience.
