Chris,

I can confirm that upgrading now to SONAR X1 Production Suite would get you X2 Producer for free.

We haven't announced any other promos for upgrading to X2 yet other than buy X1, get X2 free (any version, upgrades included). However, check out our webinar on Wednesday the 5th at 2pm EST/ 11am PST for more details. :)

Thanks for the reply... But just in case it wasn't clear what I was talking about, from here -

http://blog.cakewalk.com/sonar-x2-sneak ... e-pricing/

It states "We also have a special offer for early adopters, which we will let you know about once we start taking orders."

I'm just wondering if that "special offer for early adopters" would apply to the upgrade situation I described.... Thx
Sorry, dude, its late and its Saturday and I might miss a post here or there. :)

I'm not exactly sure if those who get free upgrades to X2 via purchasing X1 will qualify for the 'early adopter deal. I'll have to check and report back when business resumes on Tuesday.

Well, I sure hope that what I was told by your very own support guy by email is true, cause I already upgraded to Production Suite:

The early adopters thing ... "...That has yet to be revealed.  It will most likely not be an additional monetary discount. ...   It could be some sort of additional free download, but you'll get that whether you wait to get X2 or get the Production Suite now..."

As an owner of 8.5 producer, is there *any* reason to go to X1 production suite in the meantime ? It seems that whether I just go to X1 producer, or X1 production suite, I'll end up with X2 producer at the end of it, as they're being rolled into one...

Just wondering.

I'll likely wait until the webinar to see what else is going to be included (will Zeta+2 still be separate.. or the various prochannel additions, etc.) to ensure I don't go adding 'extras' that will be bundled in.

I tried going back to work on 8.5 after X1, couldnt do it because of all the new features which I had got used to were missing. SonarX1d expanded I have with all the pro chanFX apart from softube and I have got used to the workflow and with the ability to pop open the prochannel makes mixing so much faster and the Quality has improved.Even the tools Bar within a mouse click makes the workflow change so different to 8.5 Im glad I got the upgrade. The matrix view is similar to the ableton clip view and is usable but has been upgraded and so cant wait to see where it goes. The main difference is in the amount of work space clutter, it takes some getting used to but it is worth it in the end. Thats my thoughts anyway, if i were you and had the money why wait, youre getting X2 for free and you will also own X1 for another computer too(2 licenses - 1 for x1 and 1 for x2, if you wait for x2 - 1 license- your choice but I know what I would do!!)

AND it will be cheaper to upgrade now to X1 than it will be to upgrade directly to X2, if I understood well.

With SONAR X1 Production Suite you get Z3TA+ 2 and the PC4K Expander/ Gate, neither of which come with any version of SONAR X2.

sounddesigner wrote:Thanks Seth! Yes several of my latter emails from Cakewalk stated that After August 31st i would need to pay $199 for X2 upgrade comming from version 8.5 (i assume either X1 will no longer be available or that X1 itself will have a price increase to $199 for 8.5 users).

I hope you are correct cause i would like to wait a couple weeks and then buy the X1 upgrade for $99 and get X2 for free. I could not buy before August 31st plus was'nt sure i wanted it for awhile.
I'm fairly certain that the August 31st date was set up as an urgent heads up to those using 8.5 and earlier that we'd stop selling X1 upgrades once X2 was announced, and that it would happen not too far off from August 31st, and that once it happened the upgrade path to X2 for $99 from 8.5 and earlier would effectively be closed.

The loophole is that you could still buy an X1 upgrade from a retailer with leftover stock, which certainly happens. Then you'd qualify for the free upgrade to X2, but of course you would have to wait for them to ship you the physical box. If you want the download you have to buy it direct from us, in which case you shouldn't wait too long because X1 upgrades direct through us won't be available forever. ;)

Anyways, I'll try to glean some more detailed info and try to get back to you and the rest of the folks here early next week. There could be a small detail I am missing and I apologize if this has gotten more confusing than it needed to be. :)

Thanks again Seth! I'll keep a eye on this thread and others for any more info from you and others. On paper this X2 seems like the best Sonar upgrade in a very long time to me, and seems like some seriouse coding went into it. I hope the new features and improvements are as good as they are on paper in practice. All the best to Cakewalk!
T2 Icarus is a must. SonicCore SCOPE is the most. As heart of studio it has my vote, cause XITE-1 is all she wrote.

I'd like to be able to upgrade from X1 Producer Extended to X2 Studio for less than $99. There, I said it. :hihi:

The upgrade for X1 Studio to X2 studio is ALSO $99 which means that the Cakewalk folks believe that the core enhancements to the software are worth $99 so it's doubtful that you would be able to upgrade for less than that especially since Cake knows full well that you are still going to be able to use all those plugs from the previous version in x2 studio (except the prochannel stuff) You can get x2 Essential for $59 bucks and drop the V-vocal and Audio Snap, along with some other plugins that you already have (and would still be able to use, most likely) It would only be 32 bit and only have 64 audio tracks. I've managed to record happily for decades on four tracks, so 64 should be do-able. I would say that if you want x2 for less than a hundred, wait for a sale next summer, like I did this year with x1.

FYI, X2 Essential is native x64. It is still limited to 64 audio tracks, though.

well if you do go the "production suite upgrade w/ x2 free" route it actually costs $1 more but you get Z3TA+ 2 and the PC4K Expander/ Gate (if you don't already have 'em). If you're in europe I think you actually save money in that situation (i.e. the ProdSuite route is actually cheaper)....

But... it's TBD (well ToBeAnnounced anyway) if you'll qualify for the "mystery bonus prizzze" they've mentioned for early adaptors.

I see your point. I didn't think I'd be able to use X1 stuff with X2. Essential doesn't have some stuff I require - I do need audio snap for collaborations with non-SONAR musicians, etc. I agree, waiting for a sale may be the thing to do in my case.

that's actually one of the very cool things about cake, with the exception of the Prochannel stuff, Truepianos module and Vintage Channel, and maybe one or two others, you can use all your bundled Cake plugins in other sequencers even... I've used cakewalk's plugs in Tracktion and Reaper and others. wish everyone would do this... so yeah there's nothing that would prevent you from using your existing plugins in a lower version.

It looks like that v-vocal doesnt get an update, right?

I upgraded from X1 producer to the production suite a few days ago to get the free X2 upgrade, but in the recipt i cant find anything about qualifying for it.
Also a bit confusing is that in my account a 'Free - PC4k S-Type channel compressor' appeared, without serial number(N/A), which shouldnt be part of the prod suite upgrade?.
Anyone else have troubles?
I dont know, man...I just got here meself!
