Applied Accoustic Systems has a modular now I guess

If AAS had poured resources into their tech like NI did decades ago (and somehow managed to secure funding) they’d probably have some crazy stuff right now. Tassman’s guts were incredibly advanced…20 years ago. Now we have pianoteq (whose guitar and electric piano models blow strum and lounge lizard away), and rhizomatic, Kaivo, derailer, preparation, and dozens of FX that model acoustic spaces, etc.

Don't know why everyone's hating. it's super lightweighted and it sounds great. It's not vcv and not trying to be. It's basic modules that you have to build upon and it can take you places. Yes it's somehow limited and yes some kind of poly mode would be nice but it has room to improve.

Not hating but 'tough love' cuz AAS created a truly outstanding modular 20 years ago, recently abandoned it, and then released this basic modulargrrrz wrote: Wed Jan 11, 2023 6:03 am Don't know why everyone's hating. It's basic modules that you have to build upon and it can take you places.

its yet another cutdown subset of what tassman offered 20 years ago. pointing that out isnt 'hating' its being realistic. AAS have not progressed their technology, recycling is all theyve done.
An idiot on Set Theory:

Isn't recycling existing goods superior to producing evermore new stuff?whyterabbyt wrote: Wed Jan 11, 2023 10:29 amits yet another cutdown subset of what tassman offered 20 years ago. pointing that out isnt 'hating' its being realistic. I agree that it would be nice to see AAS develop some new PM technology.whyterabbyt wrote: Wed Jan 11, 2023 10:29 am AAS have not progressed their technology, recycling is all theyve done.
Not a hater, as I'm a big fan of Chromaphone, and it's a very cool synth! But even the v3 was mostly all about adding a 2nd layer and modernizing the UI.
Basically the same engine under the hood.
Windows 10 and too many plugins

well Tassman was buried because apparently difficult to maintain; this new modular has a much more friendly and responsive UI, no it hasn't the same feature and is not poly; but maybe it will be updated. It's built from the ground up. As it stands you can already do a lot with it; add poly and it can become a stapler in any setup. VCV and softube are great but they eat way too much CPU to have even multiple instances running as simple mono synths. This one I can open ten instances and it won't break a sweat. It's not the same philosophy as VCV where you have complex modules from the eurorack world. Besides maybe you're idealizing tassman a bit; besides poly were there so much more modules available? Specifically what would you miss from it? (CV 1 has an a LPG; I don't remember Tassman having one for example)Michael L wrote: Wed Jan 11, 2023 7:10 amNot hating but 'tough love' cuz AAS created a truly outstanding modular 20 years ago, recently abandoned it, and then released this basic modulargrrrz wrote: Wed Jan 11, 2023 6:03 am Don't know why everyone's hating. One very important thing that Tassman had was an FX version, allowing you to process audio from other instruments. If AAS added polyphony and an FX version to CV-1, I'd pay the upgrade fee just to have access to those resonators in a more updated interface. Without those two features, it's crippled, IMO.grrrz wrote: Mon Jan 16, 2023 10:27 amwell Tassman was buried because apparently difficult to maintain; this new modular has a much more friendly and responsive UI, no it hasn't the same feature and is not poly; but maybe it will be updated. I used the 'Builder' in Tassman and pulled most of the modules in. Some like 'inputs' and 'outputs' have multiples (12 each for those), so I just pulled one or two in.
You can see the heritage there a lot in the 'Resonators'. I think a lot of what Tassman had is still around, but it's scatted among several instruments now. A fair amount of stuff is missing though.
It would be great if it could all be pulled together in the new, easier to use Multiphonics.

ah thanks I probably have it somewhere but it's unusable on modern machines. having a panpot would be nice but you can achieve that with a few vcas. I feel like there is a v1.5 somewhere that adds a few of these features and v2 with polyphony (which can be achieved either with a poly module that just routes cv or a more complex system that allows a group of module to work as a template for multiple instances). would also be cool to be able to import and copy paste groups of modules into an existing rack.felis wrote: Tue Jan 17, 2023 12:03 am I used the 'Builder' in Tassman and pulled most of the modules in.
