Starting Tuesday, May 23, Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro for iPad will each be available on the App Store for $4.99 (US) per month or $49 (US) per year with a one-month free trial.

How soon before desktop Logic goes subscription?
I wont be getting Logic Pro for iPad even though I have wanted to see it for years. It's not an unreasonable price for a serious DAW and it will automatically be the best DAW on iOS... but I just don't use my iPad enough to justify the cost.

It will be a bummer if Logic Pro on Mac goes subscription. Logic is my secondary DAW and fills in some areas that Bitwig doesn't cover. I'm so used to Logic being updated year after year for free... :hihi:

If it does, I'll resist until my OS and Logic version are unuseable.

Beat Breaker in Logic Pro for iOS looks interesting

I may have to try it at least (1 free month)

199 dollars for Logic Pro X has been a ridiculously good deal for ... 10 years now. I can't believe I've paid nothing since the beginning, with all the updates. Amazing run. But even if they go sub, I would imagine that the existing Logic Pro should still work...

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. I don't like working on the smaller screen, though I do start stuff in iOS Garageband and send it to Logic desktop. Editing midi is a real pain, though it looks like you can use a 130 dollar Apple Pencil to tweak stuff in iOS Logic. I guess there's some amazing tilt and pressure moves that you can only do on the Apple Pencil.

Since there is a month free, I may as well try it out. I'm curious how good a job they did on the touch workflow. GarageBand is pretty good.

I pay $10/mo for Lightroom and Photoshop, so I shouldn’t balk at this, but I’m still surprised to see them go sub out the gate with such a major rework. It better be feature rich and largely complete, otherwise it’s going to be another FCPX situation where it’s pretty barebones at first until they gradually re-add functionality.

I wonder if it will come along together with an updated desktop version, otherwise the GUI experience would be widely different

We are 99.9% likely to get an update on or before may 23rd for the Mac logic. There’s too many new things in the iPad version and they are cross compatible.

What are the new things in Logic for iPad?

I think there is a very good chance desktop Logic gets all these new things on the 23rd. I'm probably most excited about the new browser, although Sample Alchemy, Beat Breaker, and some new sound packs are all exciting too. And if desktop Logic goes subscription? It would be the only subscription I'd do. I'm not switching from Logic - like EVER.

Really curious to see what the ES2 and all the other legacy Logic instruments and effects look like in the iPad version.

The browser has been revamped, search has been improved with predictive filtering, there is a new Shaperbox-ish like sampler called Beat Breaker, Sample Alchemy (version of Alchemy with sample import and touch input for granular mangling). That's what I could tell from the press release and news bits.

Beat Breaker seems like the only thing that would affect project compatibility. You could always import samples into Alchemy.

Judging from the videos, you can directly record into Sample Alchemy, which is not possible in the macOS version afaik.
