Of course, each preference could apply to multiple areas of MuLab - using a set of tags - then the Preferences UI could have a tab per tag, essentially filtering by tag.

An interesting idea but if a certain preference appears in multiple groups and you use the search field then that preference will also appear multiple times as search result, wouldn't that be confusing for the user?
Edit: A draft thought: When using the search field the results could be listed ungrouped, thus as a plain list (like now), that way avoiding duplicate search results for the same preference.

I suggested that years ago, maybe it's on the wishlist? But I don't think Jo liked the idea, least not at the time. I was thinking the same thing again when I went into the prefs again, it's a real pita to find stuff!PelletProject wrote: Sat Nov 30, 2024 5:05 am Good to see grouped preferences being explored at last!
IMO it would be a lot more ergonomic if preferences were sorted with a handful of tabs you could switch between, with some subgroups to divide within them if it's necessary to be more specific, as opposed to a drop-down approach. Drop-down I think still runs the risk of cluttering further with all tabs open and still having to scroll in some cases.
I made a few quick mockups in MUX. Hopefully they convey what I mean. Here's one with tabs on top...
And another with tabs to the side.
I'm aware this is all subjective anyway; ironic how the Preferences tab could be up to preference...![]()

Will there be an option to resize the height of the composer in the plugin version of Mulab 10?
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

I never said i didn't like the idea, it was just a matter of dev-timing.sl23 wrote: Sun Dec 01, 2024 4:27 pm I suggested that years ago, maybe it's on the wishlist? But I don't think Jo liked the idea, least not at the time. I was thinking the same thing again when I went into the prefs again
Now i found a right time and have implemented it in the next M10.0.18.

Yes, but you have to go right to the bottom corner of the whole window and "hopefully" drag on the correct area of the corner. The left hand track panel is draggable, I was hoping for the same workflow with the border above the racks

Apologies, I didn't mean anything by it. And thank you for adding itMuTools wrote: Sun Dec 01, 2024 5:47 pmI never said i didn't like the idea, it was just a matter of dev-timing.sl23 wrote: Sun Dec 01, 2024 4:27 pm I suggested that years ago, maybe it's on the wishlist? What's changed:
) to do it tag-based so preference X can be in multiple groups if that is relevant. That's for example the case for the "Unfocused Track+Rack Color Saturation".
Feel free to make suggestions about putting a certain pref (also) in another group.
What's changed:
- When dragging things and you get at the border of a scrollable area, the scrollable area now auto-scrolls while you're dragging. The more the mouse is at the border, the faster the auto-scroll.
- Preferences are more neatly organized in groups.
Feel free to make suggestions about putting a certain pref (also) in another group.

Thx for the suggestion but i don't immediately see how the grouping as of M10.0.18 can be even more restricted to a couple of fixed tabs. Feel free to elaborate if you see opportunities.PelletProject wrote: Sat Nov 30, 2024 5:05 am Good to see grouped preferences being explored at last!

Thanks Jo and pljones. I like it a lot.MuTools wrote: Tue Dec 03, 2024 8:24 pm About the preferences: I used pljones' suggestion (thx pljones) to do it tag-based so preference X can be in multiple groups if that is relevant. Well, it was less about how many groups and more so using tabs as opposed to drop-down folders. 11 main groups I think is perfectly OK, as long as it's condensed, and then all settings within the tab would be available to be tweaked at once, similar to how buttons and knobs have all settings in front of the user.MuTools wrote: Tue Dec 03, 2024 8:45 pm Thx for the suggestion but i don't immediately see how the grouping as of M10.0.18 can be even more restricted to a couple of fixed tabs. That said, that's why I also posited the subheading idea in case there is a need to further clarify. For example, within GUI, perhaps there could be something like:
General - Things like Scale, Corner Rounding, Mouse Hover Delay Time, things that have to do with multiple or all areas of the interface
Transport Panel - Things like Docked Main Module Editor, Module Keyboard, Integrating Main Transport, etc, things involving Transport Panel
Metering - Stereo Audio Display, Meter Reset Time, Level Display Style, things that involve how reactive audio elements look
Of course, wrt combining existing groups, I personally don't see a problem with combining Racks and Tracks into one group, if anything, but IMO not a need. How it is now is still great.
Hopefully this clarifies a bit what I meant. I'm sure there are other criticisms I'm not seeing myself, but having it condensed I think is still worth a lot.

2 thumbs up on the new auto scroll while dragging! I'm already appreciating the hell out of it.

I hope it's ok UX-wise to keep the preference tree list structure as is for now.
For a bit more comfort, in the next update there will always only be max 1 pref group open.
So if you open a preference group, any other open groups are auto closed, so to keep the list as compact as possible.
If there are prefs that need a better description, let me know.
