I bet this is why the 5.x series of updates were less impactful than people hoped. They’ve probably been working on this for awhile.

Post

I get a weird class cast exception when I try opening a particular project that I started with the latest 5.x
Other 5-series projects at least load without error. Anybody else with the same problem?

A busy project like this:

Gonna take a while to get accustomed to the gui for me

I think its the shading on clips
Thank you again ere2learn. You're always very helpful.

It would be awesome if you could share the screenshot of the same project in version 5 as well. But if it's not possible, no worries. You've already helped enough. I appreciate it.

Yeah a lot of the energy went towards those core graphics engine/audio engine updates. And they probably wanted to get that out of the way for a full on UI/UX refresh, which is basically what this update is. They probably had early designs/plans before those even happened.

Which distro and DE? Latest Fedora and Gnome even crashing sometimes here since a few updates.
I have got the loss of text input bug in Bitwig 6-beta-1 in two different computers, one running Ubuntu 25.04 and the other Debian Testing, both with GNOME and up to date. No crashes! Just this weird bug.

Lots of improvements to the way you initially create an arrangement but only grid lines and key signatures for the arranger. The other elephant, the key signature functionality is great, but only 23 scales and no customizable scales is so not like Bitwig??? Hopefully that ability comes in the future?
I think user scales need adding, also they could add microtuning, for their own devices and for plugins that support it (I guess anything MPE or properly implemented VST3/CLAP). How amazing would that be!

As an aside maybe we could have another thread called something like "Bitwig beta (no bickering about inconsequential shit)", then I wouldn't have had to wade through pages of it here!

I definitely don't like them, as well. They don't make the loop points any more readable for me, and add more visual noise.

Bitwig already supports this.

Yes completely true whats the point? It does not make things clearer only more graphic distraction

Milkman wrote: Thu Aug 28, 2025 4:53 am Maybe someone else know where this went -- in 5.x, in your left side track view, you usually see "I/O routing" and "Track height" toggles. The routing toggle lets you see more info per track, such as input and output device, and height of course does height. Is that not built into this beta yet, or did I just not see it yet?
I think it changed a bit, toggle automatic track height zoom to on, and while selecting a track it will show you the in and outputs. In my opinion much better like this. More room for the arranger that way. The automatic zoom button can be found down left, where you can switch on fx and hidden tracks buttons aswell.
I dont prefer this. I prefer (and it seems logical) at-a-glance information about my tracks - information I dont have to click to access. The way it was before + the automatic zoom option would cater to both preferences. This method is a step down, where I have to click into individual tracks to see that info and my ability to switch it back is removed.

Lots of improvements to the way you initially create an arrangement but only grid lines and key signatures for the arranger.
The new Alt-edits for automation work in Arrange. You can now select a time range and raise or lower just that section (Yay!!). You can scale the height of a selection, Etc.

You can select a time range, the convert it to an automation clip. Automation clips can be duplicated/pasted as unique copies or aliased copies.

There is the new global automation mode which is for the Arrange section.

Automation lanes now follow the color of the track which I like a lot.

Lots of people used to find the clip fiddly in Arrange because the lower half of the clip was the time select tool. This is now off by default and the old behavior is a settings option. The appearance of clips are redesigned with the header smaller and the clip part bigger.

You can now have tracks any height across tracks. It is no longer either small or bigger. And the smallest track height now shows clip contents instead of being blank.

These are some of the improvements that affect Arrange specifically.

I like the new curves better cause they follow the track color. But I wouldn't mind an option to make them a little more transparent, but not as much as the old ones.
