I actually didn't buy Serum only for it's sound quality, for me the workflow, the interface was more important. It's really easy to make a patch in Serum and quite visual, no wonder is loved by so many. It's easy even for those that never played with a synth, virtual or real one. I think this is where Serum won against competition, at least for me, even against newer synths. For me it doesn't really matter how powerful the synth is if what I want to achieve takes more time. If it's not fun to use, I won't use it and that's wasted money. Serum is not wasted money at all for me, it's the most used synth in my collection.
Sure, it's not a small price, I can't lie about that, but I started with rent-to-own and it wasn't a burden on my budget. Now, getting Serum 2 in that price, I could say it was a reasonable price. If there will be a Serum 3, that would be even a better deal, but I can't bet on that one, we'll see what will be.
Also, support is amazing. I don't think you'll find better support, you get to talk directly with the developer and he's responding really fast.

I'd prefer an update to Nerve before Serum. But I'm probably in the minority.

I don't own Nerve, but reading through Xfer discord server, there is a new version in testing, a beta one. 1.27 I think it's the new version. Though Nerve 2 seems to be in the works too, but I don't know it's stage. Steve only said:
it will be great but don't get antsy

Serum is definitely not overpriced. Great value at the current price. Free updates and upgrades make it an absolute no brainer.
Supporting a developer like Steve Duda, who is kind, humble, talented, and really listens to and talks with people who use his software = priceless.

I have come around to use it more as I gathered some rpesets more to my liking and exploring lesh harsh sounds.
But it still uses too much CPU, i am on a desktop i7 4790, not new but I hit the limit around 6 instances.
It also needs an arpeggiator, I am sure Steve could give it an interesting one.

I have no need for another "super synth" plugin, but I've been playing with the Serum demo lately and I definitely see why it's popular. The workflow is really well designed. It's super easy to assign mod sources to targets, and I like the way you can see all three envelopes stacked. There are a lot of little touches that make it quick and easy to dial in a new sound or tweak an existing one. The wavetable editing is superb (unmatched by any other plugin as far as I know). Lots of filters and effects, and they all sound great. CPU usage seems very reasonable too.
All in all, this is a very powerful and practical workhorse synth, and I have no doubt it's worth the money. As I said, though, I don't really need another plugin. I respect the policy of always maintaining the same price, and would recommend it to people who don't already have tons of other plugins (this could be your only synth plugin and it would totally be enough). For me it doesn't really make sense to pick it up at full price, but I'd gladly buy it just to have it in my collection if it went on sale once in a blue moon.

Its worth it IMO. It may be too much for someone who considers music a hobby, which would be me, but for a professional it shouldn’t be too much. If it is to much for a professional to invest in their craft, that professional should probably be a hobbyist.chk071 wrote: Wed Aug 25, 2021 7:54 pm Hope he re-considers the pricing, and absence of sales of any kind. It's WAY too expensive for what it does.

If you are a professional, you would get your money back just with one track. I can't call myself a professional, more of a hobbyist with desire to become professional and never regretted buying it. It's my main synth, really fun to play/program sounds. I don't think there is any project that I haven't used Serum at least one instance if not 4-5.
Most people think Serum is best for EDM and I think it's because most presets pack are for that genre, but it can do more than that, a lot more.

Serums Wavetable editor is also amazing. How's the one in Vital?

Is there any way to get Serum to remember browser and browser-filter states? Currently, each time I click away from Serum, and click back I've lost all the search settings I previously had.
This isn't what you think.

Not as good. As a matter of fact, there isn't any wavetable editor that can compare with Serum in intuitiveness and power features, IMO. I use Serum as much as a wavetable editor as I use it as a synth. Vital can't compare in that chapter.Biome_Digital wrote: Fri Sep 03, 2021 4:14 pm Serums Wavetable editor is also amazing. Serum is amazing! Many imitate it. It is a one-of-a-kind synth!
