It's pretty much the opposite these days.
Does Cubase 5 have anything like Logic's Touch Tracks or Chord Memory features?
It has both, you load them as midi plug-ins.
Does anyone think that Steinberg will be offering competitive crossgrades to Cubase 5 any time soon?
Competitive Crossgrades were done away with because of the price drop but Cubase 5 Educational Edition is still available for $254.

Can't you load MFX's into Sonar? If not, you could always load Energy XT and use it to host the MFX's and synths.
Touch Track like functionality would be being able to trigger different audio or MIDI segments with a MIDI note in real-time, giving you a little of the "Live" experience.
Step Designer, Beat Designer, or Arpeggiator SX will all do this with MIDI. I suppose Beat Designer on some kind of Sampler would provide Live-like functionality.

It really just makes apple look insecure and inferior to thinking people, when their entire advertising department is one giant smear campaign of Microsoft. Why can't they just advertise their own merits?
Because then they'd have nothing to advertise? :hihi: (just kidding people, don't jump on me! :D)

But seriously, it kinda is a smear campaign against Microsoft and I'm wondering how Microsoft puts up with it all this time. Very noble of them, I think.
They give as good as they get. IIRC aren't there a pile of Microsoft adverts that mimic the Apple ones, except they include actual facts...

Secondly, Apple are not alone in this strategy - most of the Cakewalk adverts I saw in the last year are an obvious smear campaign against Digidesign FWIW.

Anyway, let's not turn this back into a pc/mac thing please :)

Just finally read the rest of this thread. Not saying I'm interested, but.................I might secretly be in the corners of my mind.

there is of this moment no way for me to upgrade to 5 without buying the full version. Steinborg northamerica is back ordered PLUS their response back was shall we say, un-nerving

At this point in time, if there was a way to get the educational version I'd do it......but I don't see how I'd qualify.

Post

hibidy - did you check with Eric at JRRShop? That's where I got my upgrade.

Uncle E mentioned above how they were sold out because Steinberg is going to handle upgrades in house only soon.

That is already happening. The couple of places that carried it don't even have it on the websites anymore.

Really irritating, and just goes back to the borg aspect of steinborg......they want me not to be a customer so bad.......

Uncle e told me to jump on it, I was warned.

Ah I forgot that, it was before the thread's second or third turn to shite. :)

That said, if Steinberg is deciding to do that they should at least just make it a download. I do like the full manual printed but I could be down with saving a tree and having it delivered electronically. Especially since there's no need to ship a Steinberg Key with the upgrade - the user would already have one.

It looks like we're going to be selling them again soon. PM me if you're interested.

I don't have anything to upgrade from, but may have another question. Expect a PM!

I've been getting some irregular glitching as I work in the Key Editor and play back the midi track with the rest of the project. It's only the MIDI tracks, though. The tracks I externally recorded play back fine.

Averial: Do you have the "Use system timestamp" option enabled in Cubase? Can't remember off-hand where the setting is.

I'm not sure. I can't find the MIDI Port Setup ... only found that in the help file.

Devices -> Device Setup -> Midi Port Setup

Best,
midi.
