You might want to combine this with a play command in a macro:
Transport - Locators To Selection
Transport - Play From Selection Start
Some good tips there, Lawrence !

Yep, and it runs great (both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.) Also, I'm not sure what to attribute this to, but I can run with lower latency in Windows 7 than I could in Vista 64-bit without any dropouts at all. (Actually, I can run with the minimum latency for my sound card in Windows 7 whereas I could not in Vista 64-bit.) This is even while doing other stuff like IE, Outlook, etc. I just can't make the sound card drop out at all. I'm using the MOTU 828mk3.

Not specific to Cubase or any particular daw but I think this is a common misperception. I actually think the right host - one that makes you very comfortable and doesn't block the creative process - actually can make the music better (for solo artists recording themselves) by reducing frustration and enhancing creativity.
Not only that but now I can hum a tune into Cubase and it will turn it into a MIDI track for me. That's cool for doing wind solos/improvisations and other things. Means I don't have to hack it in 50 takes on the keyboard!

Btw, on that note - does the new PitchCorrect plugin have a live MIDI output?

It certainly does.

Are you sure? I know that you can export MIDI from Variaudio, but I didn't see a way for PitchCorrect to export MIDI. Did I miss something?

Yes. Create an audio track with the Pitch correct plugin inserted on it. Change scale source from "Internal" to "External - MIDI". Now create a midi track, and set it's output to track "track name:Ins.1-Pitch Correct".

You should now be able to adjust the pitch in real time using a midi keyboard. Be sure record enable and/or monitor input are enabled on the midi track.

Works great here.

He's talking about - exporting - midi data based on the incoming audio, not using midi to drive the pitch.

Afaik you can't do that (are you misunderstanding or am I?) - export midi notes based on the track's audio - with that plugin, only with VariAudio, and that one doesn't track velocity... only pitch.

Post

Yes, that's what I was talking about. I think that's what the question was above as well. Maybe I misunderstood. I knew you could make MIDI trigger the PitchCorrect, but I was talking about having the plugin export MIDI.

Can you translate the amplitude/vibrato of your voice to midi CCs too? or only midi notes on/off?

Post

You can translate pitch fluctuations and voice bends into pitch bend info. So yes. I don't know yet about the volume and how it translates to velocity, but I'll have to try that.

Unfortunately, the VariAudio translation to midi doesn't yet include velocity so no... only note and pitch bend data. For basic things like humming melody/bass lines it's fine as you can easily manipulate the velocity later once you have the midi notes.

I was hoping that it had velocity though for translating discreet drum tracks to midi notes (with dynamics), but drum notes don't track very well in the VariAudio analyzer screen anyway ... so it's a non-issue for that.

KT Drumtrigger (free) will do that pretty well so... no biggie.

Ah, sorry I must have misunderstood the original question then.

Post

Yup LF and kk were right, I was talking of taking a live audio input and having the PitchCorrect plugin output the MIDI notes live to route to an instrument.

'Twould be a fun feature IMO.

Here's a new feature in C5 that some may not have stumbled on yet.
