If I had to choose - general choice - I'd choose Alchemy . But if we talk only granular, then the choice would be between Padhop Pro and Granite.

Padshop is just like Retrologue a very nice surprise, so I really can't choose between it and Granite. I got Padshop pro becaue it was only a 10Euro upgrade, but suddenly it became a serious and fascinating tool.

Yup, good call indeed. Granite, another nice one not to forget granular speaking only.ErikH wrote:If I had to choose - general choice - I'd choose Alchemy . But if we talk only granular, then the choice would be between Padhop Pro and Granite.

Comparing Alchemy, Granite and Padshop Pro only from the granular aspect makes Padshop a clear winner imo. As it has up to 8 grainstreams per oscillator (and a wide palette of grain shapes) the thickness/lushness one can achieve using long grain durations/lengths sounds pretty unique. Of course it's Modmatrix is very basic compared to Alchemy, one can't even modulate basic things like e.g. the LFO speed (but one can assign the Modwheel to everything which is cool) but automation is always a quick workaround, also for some of the parameters in the granular engine which can't (yet) be modulated (random detune etc).
FX-wise Padshop is quite good, the Delay/Chorus/Flanger sounds good, the distortion is alright, Alchemy's Reverb definitley sounds better but with all those great Reverb Plugs around internal Reverb isn't so essential these days.
Padshop is a clear winner CPU wise compared to Alchemy. But Alchemy can load sfzs with hundreds of multisamples, Round Robin, velocity layers and whatnot which you can granulate all at the same time.
Granite only plays back mono samples, it sounds very grainy compared to the other two and there seems to be no development whatsoever. Haven't used it for ages actually so I think it's not playing in the same league. One could compare many more things but that could be boring so I'll shut up now.

What is the CPU usage like on Padshop? Compared to Alchemy?
And Retrologue?

Retrologue's CPU demand is incredibly LOW.........very impressive.V'ger wrote:What is the CPU usage like on Padshop? Compared to Alchemy?

Padshop is incredibly low on CPU as well, even with both oscillators active. At least from what I've experienced.

Just a heads-up for the Retrologue owners...I have 2 banks available for purchase, but still waiting on the MP3's:
"Pure Techno" and "Oldschool Electronica," with 100 patches in each set.
Product Page:

** I mentioned earlier about "Oldschool Electronica" and Steinberg...apparently I misunderstood and they have something else in mind. So, I keep the rights and am offering it for sale under my own brand as originally intended. ***

Pasting the link gives an error due to syntax problems but in this reply the link will work - I downloaded it - what's a File Type Provider? It's only 82 KB so its not a full installer?MatthiasQ wrote:Hi everyone,

Thanks for the patch Matthias, now I can resave the patches I had saved as Kore sounds and aupresets. I'm making my own soundbank too but trying to do it with just the factory samples so anyone can use it.

I had some problems registering there as well. And, the eLicenser number is not visible anywhere on the box or the device (USB in this case). It is read by the eLicenser software. There are two sets of numbers on the box which just confuse people. Ignore those if you have not already figured this out. Currently, everywhere I see email addresses in my My Steinberg account it is not the address they correspond to me with even when I use the preferred address when I have opened a support ticket. I think they have a database that does not get purged/updated properly. I probably used the one email address at some point when I was having a problem like yours where their system said the email I was trying to use for my account already belonged to an account. As far as I can tell, by receiving context relevant responses from Steinberg, it is one account with two email addresses attached to it yet only one shows up for me to see on my end. ???FaX wrote:..."The email address I have entered does not belong to any activated user account"
So I go to register, get to page two and get this message on page two "Error: Email Address already Registered"
I don't know what the f**k is going on I either have a registered email account or I don't and according to "My Steinberg" it doesn't exist and according to the registration for creating an account it already is and when I tried it yesterday it wouldn't accept my eLicense Number and I have received all purchase confirmation email from Steinberg but nothing else at that address.
Seriously at 44 it's the most f**ked up shit I've ever had to deal with on a computer in many year and quite funny really.

Here are 2 fresh Padshop demos:
The first one uses 2 patches made from/with processed harp and vocal samples
http://soundcloud.com/sampleconstruct/h ... -vocal-pad
and the second one uses only vocal textures
http://soundcloud.com/sampleconstruct/v ... p-pro-demo
The deeper I get into Padshop the more I must emphazise what a great soundscape machine this thing is!
