Because most musicians don't want to pigeonhole their music into a specific genre. This is the job of the marketing department, not the artist.

I can see your point but at the same time every music site has genres and they have tags, tbh I could really say what genre my own music would be. But then if I didn't have to wade through that just wasn't my thing I would probably listen more and comment more but that's just me. It was just a thought, sorry it seemed to be such a bad idea...I guess I should be happy that some people put a hint in their thread title and I guess if I listened more I would know who played what

"No holds barred" would result in horrible extended flame wars. They are the internet equivalent of the Vietnam War - lots of casualties on all sides with no winners. See the recently locked Algomusic thread as an example. In my opinion, we should encourage civility at The Cafe.

I think it would help if people offered a suggestion on what kind of feedback they were looking for. Sometimes it's just a forum regular and a link.

it saddens me deeply that as fellow artists we need to encourage that, but you're right.

Optional genres in thread titles are fine. This is recommended in the Cafe guidelines if I recall correctly. However, enforcing genre tags on people that don't want them would be unpleasant.

Remember it takes 2 seconds to "drop the needle" in the middle of a SoundCloud track to determine this is a dubstep thing and decide to move on. You can preview and filter tracks pretty quickly.

Yes, it can be a real issue if people can't handle criticism. I don't mind listening and giving feedback but I am uncomfortable if only praise or "positive criticism" is expected. This is a tough issue to navigate. The more information the OP offers, the better. This helps focus my feedback. On the other hand, it's better not to post stuff on the internet if you can't handle the occasional critical comment.

There are still more than a million people seriously ill because of the dioxin in the Agent Orange, and that's in 2014, the country is still contaminated...

Other estimations mention up to 5 millions of war victims, not only 1.3 millions...

Many of the returning soldiers (of the United States) had PTSD for the rest of their lives.

Nobody won except desperation...
