None of you know me. Except ssj71. You see, he and I (and sometimes some other people) play a music sharing/reviewing game every week. This week he (ssj71) shared these submissions. So while I didn't officially vote, I did rate and review all of these tracks. Well, I reviewed most of them. Anyway, I thought I should share those ratings and reviews with you (on the blog where I keep track of these things): https://psidd.wordpress.com/2016/09/10/ ... ng-to-fly/ (https://psidd.wordpress.com/2016/09/10/its-only-me-trying-to-fly/)- KVRAF

We sure do know you now!
Thanks for making sure your voice is being heard. Every viewpoint, if sincere, is very valuable to gain a greater understanding of humanity and too few people offer insight to their reasons for why they rate a song a certain way.
I do particularly enjoy the clarity your banner picture provides to understand the nature of your perspective. Though I may be tempted to make some witty remarks, I honestly want to thank you for your effort to go through all the songs, rate them with a little review and muster up the enthusiasm to share it with all. It's great to know our music isn't lost to any generation nor walk of life!

It's a very nice gesture as Taron said
Although, statements like these...

That reaction is all due to my own point of view, naturally. For me, a huge part of the interest is to hear what kind of magic people are able to pull off with a synth, with sheer determination and skill. The challenge doesn't start with "a sound sample", and there is no "same set of sounds" as people generally put in a load of effort crafting custom sounds of their own.
Disclaimer: my comment isn't motivated by your reaction to my own track. I know the SID chip is a niche thing, no matter how much sweat might have gone into recreating that "simple" sound. So two points for that is one thing (awwh) - but then, also two points for something like Jasinski's effort with such vocal parts painstakingly hammered out of this free synth, not to mention other superb details? Really?
Okay, rant over. Just showing my own bias here, but felt like showing it in any case

You make me believe that I've used just a little bit too much diplomacy in what I was writing!
You know, there's a theme going on around the world these days, and it's the theme of "imposing balance", regardless the cost or sacrifice of dignity. I find his reviews extraordinarily "balancing" in some cases and undoubtedly "imposing"!

Thanks very much for posting your own rating,
it's always 'interesting' to read one more point of view on our entries to the OSC.
And any and all comments on my tracks are always welcome, as it means one more listener every time.
For fairness, since I can't rate back your entry at the OSC , let me rate your "reviews" with a middle 3, since reading them I had a feeling that you don't like the extremes. <wink>
I hope to vote for your entry in this monthly OSC some day.

Hi psiddoway,
I think it's great to have an 'outsiders' review of this. Great reminder that we are supposed to make music and not just tracks
Of course your scores are mostly influenced by your musical taste and that's more than ok. I too tend to rate songs that are more close to my own taste higher.
'Insiders' also take the technical aspects of creating the songs into account.
But again, thank you very much for your time and effort to have these submissions reviewed.

Some amazing entries, as per usual!
Some very inventive indeed.
Used the scale 2-5, but remember getting a 2 is still not a bad thing
, just that I didn't like/rate it as much as the others using some objective and some subjective ratings.
I may still tinker my rating a little before the deadline ...
But ... ********* DoctorBob has VOTED *********

Me and @ssj71 have voted!
@bjporter : we've used my onesynthchallenge.org account to vote
We both scored the submissions and rounded down the scores ; (4+5)/2 = 4,5 => 4
This resulted in some submissions losing a point, sorry about that.
Everyone good luck in the challenge!

Started last week with a first round of voting and had all sorted between 2 and 5, but wanted to go through all tracks again this week to finetune everything. But my cat died and voting lost its importance. She was 20 years and 4 months, pretty old, and I decided for her memory to give everybody 5 points. RIP Speedy.

Oh man, I'm sorry, geklimper! We, my wife and I, know too well what that feels like, but 20 years is a very nice age. While condolences are due, I'd also congratulate you on having had speedy for 20 years. Find consolation in the fact that you've given a little soul so many experiences and soon he (?) will incarnate with much greater wisdom!
The worst thing that can happen in that regard is when you lose a very young cat, just having come out of being a kitten. I've had that happen and it broke my heart. To this day I know that there's a piece missing.
