Want to try out your skills in other contests / competitions /challenges?
  • DiHalt Demoscene competitions
  • Indaba - Has a mix of popular and indie artists with various contests like remixing and song writing. Some people from OSC have had success here.
  • KVR Mix Challenge (see stickies) - Who can mix a song the best (Without adding extra recordings /musical additions)? Each person starts out with the same stems.
  • Music Cafe (KVR, see stickies) - A thematic monthly competition. Use recording, real instruments, synths and samples.
  • RemixComps - An aggregator for remix contests from a variety of artists and genres (mostly EDM) - indie and popular.
  • Soundevotion (SDCOMPO) Competition - Even longer running than the OSC, the SDCOMPO is even more niche in that you must use a tracker, and set of specific effects. Great community.

I tried this synth. On top of the sound being inconsistent, the unison is terrible in my opinion. The features it offers are amazing, but I can't even make a good kick.

Sitting this one out... Again.
It's very tasty, I swear!

So Helm was finally chosen. I think I will give it a try anyway and see where it goes :)

It's a great UI. And some great features... yet I can't seem to get great sounds from it yet... a lack of warmth somehow.

Post

Edited.

Helm isn't the kind of synth that reveals all this strenghts at the first look. Sorry for being rude on my comment.

Great mod options on this thing :tu:

Formant feature seems completely bro-ken tho. turn it on and it seems more like a heavily distorted comb effect (bit-crush)??? Also getting some big reverb hits when turning FX on and off :scared:

If anyone can confirm I will post the bugs. I'm on Win7-64bit, Helm ver 0.85

Post

Looks like I'm out of this one unless I figure out how to get Helm to show up in Ableton. The standalone version works, just not the VST. Sigh...

This is gonna be the geekiest OSC ever.

Me and ssj71 are gonna team up.

Thou shall call us : The Penguinators

Both on linux, using Ardour 5 RC, using github to sync our songs.
We have no idea if this is gonna actually work. So it should be fun.

Now building Ardour 5 RC from git :borg:

Hi H-Man,

i play a little bit in the night with the synth and get the same probelms: crazy formant sounds :D.
But as i see in the morning: it's fixed with the new Version 0.8.6 -> https://github.com/mtytel/helm/commit/e ... abd01b6921

Thx Matt Tytel for the fast fix :)

Have a nice day

I have the same issue in FL Studio 12. I found that I get an error message about some missing dll file. Standalone works. Previous version of Helm worked fine.

Awesome  , This synth looks very promising at a glance.

Found a bug: If I pull the noise slider up and down the noise does not go away and I'm left with crackling. I can move it up again, just a little and then down, to reduce the noise but it won't go away completely.
EDIT: All sliders seem to have this behaviour

Using FLstudio 12 32bit, 0.8.6 32bit

Feature request: Tension in envelope curves/graphs

Works for me in FL Studio 12. I installed only the 32-bit version in C:\Program Files (x86)\VstPlugins\helm.dll

No Steinberg or helm-folders

Thanks for the update. The formant filter was indeed quite useless.
Is the developer in this thread?

Oddly, I'm not having ANY problems in Ableton Live on the Mac. It took a few moments to figure out the modulation assignment, though.

Updated FL Studio from 12.2 to 12.3. I am running 32-bit version of FLS. I installed the latest version of Helm. I have 5 crashes so far, all happening when I been scrolling thru presets. ..I guess I will pass on this OSC. My nerves are not strong enough :P
