Hehe, I was hoping I just had to connect the PC's digital out to my 828... well, maybe I'll buy a cheap low latency card then... can't persuade any asio driver to work properly below 768 samples... sigh... peecee...

M-audio audiophile 2496 is very cheap now (around 80 euros or so) and offers excellent drivers and very low latency. I run mine constantly at 256 samples.

Btw. sounds weird that you can't get lower latency with the motherboard soundcard. My girlfriends laptop does 512 samples easily with asio4all driver and it's just a slow p3 1ghz with only 128mb ram. :-o

not even the asio4all? :?

Asio4All gave me a full crash... :?

Well, nevermind... I'm not producing music, just software.

Poor Urs. Look like he needs a PC swat squad, eh?

Hey, sounds like we are getting close....yes it's true, Bill Gates is evil....don't hear much about him anymore...perhaps he is lost in that palace of his???

Yeah, it's all coming closer 8)

Fortunately, the email & forums activity is slowly settleing down to normal amounts. It's been up to 3-6 hours a day (from an average of 1 hour) after Filterscape preview came out... not good when actually having a lot of work to do...

I'm currently adding some "missing pieces" to the engine, such as preset management, midi learn, better usability and some other small things that I have neglected so far in order to get actual work done... but that's pretty finished and mostly beta tested...

I'm also working on some issues of the VST concept. The Filterscape AUs come as a single .component (read: ".dll"), which is great, because they heavily share resources. It's only 1 plugin file, but the user is presented with as many AUs as there are in the single plugin, just as if they were installed seperately...

... for VST this means I have to either splat them across several .dlls or build a shell, like Waves stuff... but does that work for synths and effects in a single .dll?!? - Or, I might have several independent .dlls for the Vsts which load the engine as a seperate .dll to share resources. But this means I have to learn more about Windows programming... :?

I guess I'll go the painless way and start out with seperate plugins. I can do these optimizations later, when more familiar with Windows... and maybe it's not even required at all...

I think separate plugins is fine and offers some extra flexibility.

Noooooooooooooooo!

Start out and end up, please. I vote for more plugins!

Yeah... I don't like "Shells" as well.

But I would love to find a way for using shared resources, as the Filterscapes do share 95% of their code, so why load twice or three times?!?

This won't be a problem for Zebra tho, as Zebra comes alone. It has stripes enough to do so.

I've always hoped it would at some point be a two plugin deal with a Zebra effect module or many little Zebra Filter effects. More is always better in my book.

I look at the EVB3 as an example of how this works well. Just more food for thought.

Yeah... but you know... As Zebra's Audio Input works in Logic and Live now... I'd rather spend time on improvements than on stripped down add-ons...

but who knows...

I guess this should be possible - synth-edit plugins load additional (3rd party-) code as modules...

(maybe you should send Jeff McClintock a mail and ask him about it...)

SynthEdit's architecture is essentially that of a VST plugin host where each module, both internal and 3rd party, is a plugin.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that loading a .dll from within a .dll is a no-brainer. I'll probably just have to look at sample code. I hope they'll still be shared when loaded from different über-.dlls :?

Now let me work on stuff ;)

Cheers,

;) Urs
