I'd just say (obviously IMHO) that never say never. Many people thought GR was practically dead and abandoned.
Yeah good point, I remember NI employees being super adamant that no more plug ins were getting abandoned. So far so good there.

I was a bit upset though when Rig Kontrol development stopped, (the software for the hardware, didn't see that coming), and it was never a good sign that NI was invested in Gutiar Rig that they never came out with Rig Kontrol 4 etc.

I just wish they would add in a basic preset brain to their MIDI and proprietary hardware controllers. It's just not kosher to have to rely on Controller Editor as the brain of something like Rig Kontrol or Komplete Control for that matter. Any hardware controller IMO should be able to send CC data MMC, and notes without a computer attached. Plus removing support for older controllers in Controller Editor guarantees that the legacy Controller Editor will eventually break on newer PCs and break even quicker on Macs.

That and using soon to be depreciated cheaper AD/DA converters for Kore and Rig Kontrol was a bunk move. I get it that Apple could support it still etc. but Apple doesn't do those things without a reason, there probably were issues with the converters in the first place that NI decided to overlook when using them. :(

So my trust in NI over the years leans towards, if it's not a huge profit maker for them, don't trust them. GR6 is a good sign for the future though, I look forward to trying it out, although it kills me that they no longer make a foot controller for it. Does GR6 still support Rig Kontrol and generic foot pedals? or is that gone now?

I can't imagin N.I. developed ICM technology without indending to churn out a lot of new stuff for Guitar Rig
So $99 per update could get quite expensive.

Post

Minor updates were always free of charge with NI, this will remain to be the case.

I thought so too, but would adding new Amps/effect be considered a minor update?

Post

Sure. They're not about to call it GR7, GR8, GR9 on every new amp update. These are not internet browsers.

maybe if theyd added a lot more already.
but as it stands, with the new tech, think of this as the update, then there will be additional content before the next update to 7.
will be 6 point updates till then, which are free :)

That's encouraging.
Why do they advertise 3 paths: Full Version, Upgrade and Update.
I don't get what the "Update" path at $99 is for.

Update is from any previous version of GR. Upgrade is from GR Player or other eligible product (Komplete Start?).

Thanks, as a bit of a completist, I was worried they might be adopting the AmpliTube strategy.
I'm really looking forward to GR6, especially the new Bass Invader amp.

EvilDragon wrote: Wed Sep 02, 2020 6:24 pm Just because Brian ain't with NI anymore, doesn't mean there aren't other people that can take over the code. It's a matter of effort vs payoff, though.
For example, Cakewalk did a good enough job with Z3TA 2 despite the loss of RGC.
Even if the piano player can't play, keep the party going.
