People have been doing exactly what you're doing at high latencies for decades. You need to direct monitor and stop going through your DAW, that will bring your latency down to 1-2ms.MickGael wrote:The lowest possible latency is not "a trip" for me: it is a necessity when tracking. I primarily record live instruments with microphones, and an RME buffer size of 128 typically introduces an unusable amount of latency. Period. Why is this so hard to understand? And why do people insist on questioning this?

Yes, you're right. Even if I don't personally need to do what you're doing, I do appreciate that you're providing a stress test that could lead to improvements for everyone.MickGael wrote:ST3 is the only - the only - plugin I have that crashes at the lowest latency WITH NO INSTRUMENT LOADED AT ALL. Surely, that is something IK has an interest in fixing?

Yes. I would expect glitches and distortion, not crashes.gmontano wrote:I wouldn't even care if st 3 officially didn't support the low latency, but it hard crashes cubase and the standalone when the sound card is at set low. Debate what you want about the needing for low latency, but ST 3 shouldn't crash your daw.

It's not a stress test for many users. I to require the lowest latency. It's why I also own 4 SSDs and 32gb ram. ST3 should function in this regard as well as other romplers / plugins at the very least. Hopefully a ticket has been opened for this issue.Uncle E wrote:Yes, you're right. A stress test is anything that's taken to extremes. The number of users doing it doesn't change that.jrides wrote:It's not a stress test for many users.
Awesome system! I guess I shouldn't complain too much when my MacBook Air chokes. It's why I also own 4 SSDs and 32gb ram. ST3 should function in this regard as well as other romplers / plugins at the very least.

Well, to be clear, I definitely don't think thatgmontano wrote: If the nay sayers or IK (not that IK has said this) think hard crashing is completely acceptable, then there really isn't much else to say.
It's interesting about the eDrums--I can appreciate that, for the most natural drumming experience, you would want the distance to feel closer. I track drums here using a Roland TD-4 and 128 latency works good for me, even for intricate hi-hat work. I didn't anticipate using ST3 for this purpose though; maybe I will have to try it.

I don't use ST 3 for intricate hihat work. I use BFD3 or SD2 for that. However, when I do play the drum VSTis, I would theoretically use ST3 on another track for piano , bass, etc.

FWIW, it takes 8ms for sound to travel 3 feet. Thus, if you're wearing headphones, 8ms would be roughly equivalent to playing an acoustic kit.gmontano wrote:I don't use ST 3 for intricate hihat work. I just tried setting my Sample Rate to 64 in Studio One, on Windows 7, using RME FireFace. In a complete session, containing several different VSTi and VST plugins, I was able to run SampleTank VST3 without any troubles. Are you guys using the VST3 version? Windows or Mac?
64 samples felt pretty good, and my system seemed to be able to take plenty of abuse without too much trouble
Maybe I'll stick with it

Running Windows 7 x64 here (and Cubase 7.52 x64). Using RME driver 3.42.
I never use VST 3.
I can work with RME set to 64 samples (just not anything above it - especially when I use AmpliTube!).

Actually, it takes about 8ms for sound to travel 3 yards, not 3 feet.Uncle E wrote:FWIW, it takes 8ms for sound to travel 3 feet. Thus, if you're wearing headphones, 8ms would be roughly equivalent to playing an acoustic kit.

Here's some more Sonik Synth Mulits for ST3. 20 altogether and the ones that I released earlier were reworked a bit.
Sonikk Synth ST3 Teksonik 02
I think it's the new and improved effects that have made the Sonik Synth samples just pop now. Really having a lot of fun rediscovering these samples............hope you enjoy.

just cancelled my ST 3 order from Sweetwater... they also gave that $9 off for the Father's Day promotion when i purchased the Reason 7 update (i will get Reason 8 update for free)... i.e. the update only cost $120 instead of $129.99... which i thought was great... i would like to thank all the beta-testers and individuals who brought the product and posted their opinions... i used the phrase "being strung alone" a quite a few times in my posts... waiting for the box version and reading this thread on ST 3 made me come to the conclusion... that ST 3 is something i do not need... from what i read... there is not a big difference in the patches/sound quality from ST 2 and ST 3... the difference is the 64-bit app... i have ST 2, i also have Sonic Refills 1 thru 20 and Gold Sonic Refills which are all basically the same samples as ST 2... why buy those samples for the forth time? i.e. ST 3... i choose Reason 7 update over ST 3 update because Propellerheads is a better company to invest "my" money in... there is no trickery when purchasing for Propellerheads... i.e. they say the Reason 8 update will be available on Sept 30... i believe that update will be available Sept 30!!!
i would like to wish ik multimedia the best of luck in the future... i personally would never purchase an ik multimedia product again...
again... thanks to all for their input on ST 3... but the way i look at it... i have ST 3... i.e. Sonic Refill... already... because in my opinion... again... this is my opinion... Reason is the best workstation in the world... just with the FSB... and if you add the Sonic Refills... WOW!!! i do not think ST 3 could touch Reason as a "workstation"...
"workstation" in the line of Motif and Fanton... those "workstations" have sequencers...
